Hi, Not sure if these are your people but I find the following living Norfolk, Litchfield Co., CT 1850 Norfolk, Litchfield Co., CT Cornelia Root 43 b.1807 CT Frances M. Root 11 Chas Root 8 Helen Root 5 Lucinda Richardson 60 (maybe a housekeeper?) Next door to the above are: Lewis Root 20 b.CT Sarah A. Root 22 (assume this to be Lewis' wife) They are living in the household of Myron and Elizabeth Johnson ~ so maybe Sarah's maiden name was Johnson? Just a guess... 1860 Norfolk, Litchfield Co., CT Lewis Root Angelina Root Orrin Root 1 Next door is; 1860 Norfolk, Litchfield Co., CT Cornelia Root 52 Charles Root 18 Ellen Root 15 Seems that maybe this Lewis Root married twice, as even though the "A" in Sarah A. Root's name could be Angelina the ages do not fit....you would expect if "Angelina" was still Sarah that she would be at least a similar age as Lewis. So possibly this Lewis Root has married again... As far as Hiram Root, you will not be able to identify which "Hiram Root" is Cornelia's husband or Lewis' father in any census prior to 1850 because only the heads of households are named in these census, so you can't know who else is in the household. I did however find that there were 3 Hiram Root living in Litchfield County CT in 1840, one in Canaan, another in Winchester and another in Litchfield... There is a Hiram Root found in the 1830 census at Goshen, Litchfield Co., CT in this household are to be found....... 1 male 5 but under 10; 1 male 20 but under 30; 1 female under 5; 1 female 20 but under 30; 1 female 40 but under 50 and 1 female 50 but under 60. That is how the earlier census were done. With Cordelia and Lewis remaining in Litchfield County it seems that this 1830 Hiram Root could be the right one, however, remember there are 3 Hiram Root in the 1840 census all in Litchfield County! Hope this helps Janice And there are men who scale the mountain steeps And there are men who sink in ocean's deeps, And there are men why on deserts die, And other men to starry heavens fly; And we shall fail, or soar to heavenly things, As our forefathers gave us weights or wings. ~ Alice Carter Cook
