I'd just like to offer an FYI about a possible variation on that surname. A researcher in CT and I both research a lady, named Rhoda. She was born 1800 in Westport, MA, as Rhoda MANCHESTER. In ~1816? she married Epaphroditus LAVARE. He was a mariner and reportedly had been born in VA and come up to RI or CT. They had 2 sons in Westport, but he died at sea just before his daughter was born. The researcher in CT is descended from one of the 2 LAVARE sons. She thinks Epaphroditus' father was from France. (In 1829, Rhoda remarried to James CLARK, and they had a daughter, Mary Anna. I have been trying to prove that Mary and her husband, John DEXTER, were the grandparents of the little girl they adopted in MA in 1892. They renamed her to Mary Anna Clark DEXTER.) I thought LeVARGE and LAVARE could be variations of the same name. Betty (near Lowell, MA) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
