    3. Grace,   You need to click on the message board link at the top of Howard's message to reach Howard. He is not a member of this mailing list.   Now about Captain Nathaniel Clark. He was probably a ship's captain and part of the "Naval" forces. Ship building and shipping were big industries in Connecticut in the 1600's and 1700's. Whaling was big, and New London was known as major a Whaling center. Many men had small boats that were able to go into many of the inlets along the Connecticut coastline.  These smaller boats were able to navigate the Connecticut rivers and resupplied ocean going vessels with fresh food ands goods. There were Naval battles fought on Long Island Sound during the Revolutionary War.   Marilyn CT  --- On Tue, 3/31/09, amzgrace <amzgrace@comcast.net> wrote: From: amzgrace <amzgrace@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [CT] All Connecticut researchers To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com, genconnecticut@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, March 31, 2009, 11:44 AM Howard - Unfortunately I have limited info on my "lost souls". A few greats ago, Sarah Clark, born around 1769 in Lyme, CT. Her father is listed in my family genealogy book as Capt. Nathaniel Clark. Captain of what, I don't know. I was hoping he fought in the revolution but cannot find a Nathaniel Clark as a Capt. Sarah married Timothy Mather 02/02/1792, supposedly in Lyme but correspondence with the various towns of Lyme, Old Lyme, East Lyme doesn't show them there. Not too long after the marriage, Sarah and Timothy moved to Western NY because I believe their son, Gurdon Clark Mather, was born in Lima, NY. Timothy died in Lima in 1805, no further date. Sarah may have remarried. Can't find her after that. Any clues would be most appreciated. 3. Hi Marilyn - Thanks for the tip on Howard's link as well as the overview on ship's captains versus sea captains. It was pointed out to me that, considering the location, a sea captain was more likely, especially since my exact Nathaniel Clark doesn't show up in the Revolutionary War lists. I have his daughter Sarah born in Lyme in 1769 but am not sure where that info came from, no name for her mother and I understand from one website I was on that records for Lyme were lost for several years around that time. I also was under the impression that Sarah and Timothy Mather were married in Lyme then moved to Lima, NY but can't confirm that either. I've thought of making a trip to the area but wonder how helpful that might be in the long run since I'm drawing so many blanks.
