Platt Benedict founded the Firelands Historical Society in 1858 and was its chair until his death in 1866. The society has published a journal since its founding, which is a rich source of information about the settlement of the region. I used this journal and family documents in my possession to write the history I am posting on my blog. I post an episode every Monday. I hope that people interested in the role of Connecticut families in the settlement of the Firelands will be entertained and informed by these postings, and fill in gaps and correct inaccuracies in my research. Thank you for your kind attention. Please visit my blog and read of the role of Connecticut pioneers in the settling of the "Sufferers' Land."
