    1. Re: [GenCT] "We Care" Packages to Katrina Survivors ! - Off Topic
    2. While rescuers provide immediate help to those in the disaster area, we can donate toward humanitarian causes for an immediate response. Genealogists and family historians can also begin to think about helping preserve the family histories of those affected. Someday in the future when Katrina's victims are safe and secure once more, they will surely mourn the loss of the family records, documents, photos and other things lost in the storm and flood. We know as genealogists and family historians what a blow that would be if it were to happen to us. Today, we can look through our own records and see if we have documents and photos that will be precious to family who have migrated south over the years, or who have married people from those places. Now is the time to identify and safeguard them until the time is right to restore the documents, or copies of them, to the people who will value them so in future years.
