    3. My husband's grandmother, Elizabeth Warren Stevens, of East Hartford, was supposedly dragged by her husband's car when she stepped out to go shopping in downtown Hartford and her coat got caught in the door. AT that time, my in-laws were living in SC for military duty. I just found 2 old letters written to them by her from the hospital on June 25 and 26, 1945, saying that she was okay although she couldn't move her left leg. The next paper I found was an old yellowed scrap of paper that said "Serviceman's mother, Elizabeth. died June 27 and family requests serviceman's presence. Funeral arrangements incomplete." Nice, compassionate way of notifying him!! Of course, about 9 months before this, he was notified that he had a new healthy baby girl. When he called home--he was told the message should have been "Baby girl stillborn due to birth defects." Poor man must have been terrified to get any more messages from the Marines. At this point I am unable to get into the State Library in Hartford for the next couple of months. Does anyone know of an online resource for old obits and also newspaper articles? I would expect this might have made the news because it was so tragic and accident. Also, has anyone ever tried to get old hospital records in this kind of situatuion? I am a nurse and with all the new privacy laws, I am not sure what the situation is now. Would it be likely that the hospital might still have them? Thanks----Barb
