Many families will have one or two names that are family names and carried generation to generation. You must have noted that in Norbert 1866's own group of children, he has a son that he also named, in part, Norbert - Nicholas Norbert b. 1908. In one respect, that is great when one comes upon a record that one is unsure of but the record carries a family given name making it a pretty sure bet that it is probably one of your records but in another respect, where a family has numerous members all around the same age and they, in turn, each bestow the family name on a child, it can get to be a bit of a tangled mess. Worse, if the name gets recycled to another child when the first died. Thanks to a family name, I am still, after about 5 years, trying to figure out which of three Matthias'es late 1600's in NY is my direct ancestor. It might be enlightening to try and find out if Nicholas Norbert went by Nicholas or Norbert in life. That might give some indication of whether his father, your Norbert, might also have had more to his name and chose to use the Norbert part throughout life much as my Jules Arthur chose to use Arthur as an adult. Working on the premise that your Norbert's father was Norbert as the information Suzanne Devine seems to suggest I found a death/burial. It isn't in Sudbury however, it's possible that after a sojourn to the US & RI, when the family returned to Canada, they may have first gone back to the original area of Canada that they left but found the conditions or whatever it was that had prompted them to try the US/RI in the first place, still remained so then moved on to Sudbury, Ont. Were it me, I give consideration to Ste-Anne-de-Sorel, Co. Richelieu as being the origin of Norbert and his family because in addition to Pèloquin"s in this repertoire, there are also numerous Lavallée"s. Your Mrs. Lavallée may have been married before she migrated to CT and it wouldn't be unusual for someone to marry another person from their hometown Repertoire Ste-Anne-de-Sorel, Co. Richelieu, Province Québec 1886 Huitieme feuillet S.10 Norbert Pèoquin ....Le vingt deux Avril....avons inhumé dans le cimetiere de cette paroisse le corps de Norbert Pèloquin, enfant légitime de Michel Pèloquin, cultivature et de Philomène Bicheau de cette paroisse dédédé le vingt du courant a l'âge d* ** ** **** **** et vingt jours. witnesses were Michel Pèloquin & Théophile Very frustrating but the first part of the age, the years part, entered for age at death was crossed out and the one written above it was in drawn out scribble that I couldn't decipher so I can't say as to whether this is a young Norbert or and old Norbert. I almost want to say the the years was "onze" / 11 but I couldn't be certain so hence the **'s. I didn't go back through the repertoire for this parish to see if there might be a corresponding birth pointing to this, then, being a young Norbert since I'm in a bit of a time crunch at the moment but perhaps someone else could take a peek for you. Michel Pèloquin is a witness to the burial so it might be a young Norbert. Considering that Norbert might be a family name, then this burial entry could be pointing to a possible uncle in the person of Michel to your Norbert. I do find a Michel Pèloquin in St Pierre de Sorel, Richelieu County on the 1851 CA census. Michel 36y, Sophie 33y, a servant, Catherine ***al widow 64y then a bunch of Pèloquin kids - Michel 15y, Catherine 12y, Paul 11y, P**r**(m) 8y, Marie 6y, Ph*****(m)5y, Théophile 3y, Adelle 6 mos. All b. Sorel There are numerous other Pèloquin"s also in St Pierre de Sorel on this census. It might be useful to look at this census and also get the repertoire films for St-Pierre. The Norbert that Suzanne found might be one of these on the census but using another part of his name which is why he doesn't show up in the Ancestry indexes. You'd have to look at the baptisms for males with Norbert as part of their name. If you've not looked at a repertoire before you should know that most have an index in the back that is compiled by event type...baptism, marriage, burial and within those categories, alphabetical by surname. There are, as always, the annoying exceptions but for the most part it is pretty easy to go through the repertoire years via the indexes looking for you target.
