Hi Lisa, I read with interest, your mention of Thompson and North Grosvenordale. I grew up in Thompson, and at one time, actually submitted articles to the Putnam Patriot and the Windham County Observer. These were little items, about the comings and goings of the various townsfolk, usually three or four lines long, perhaps longer for more newsworthy events. People would call me if they had something to put in the paper, and I would get a few cents a line for typing it up and delivering it to the newspaper office. If you can find these papers, perhaps at the Putnam Library, they are full of tidbits of local gossip about Thompson, and other communities surrounding Putnam. Me and my Mom did it, and it was lots of fun. Thanks so much for letting me know about these articles. I'll add them to my to do list for Connecticut. All these little items or "gossip" are great when you can find them. They fill in the day to day information about what life was like back then.
