Norwich or New London Libraries should have complete Barber Vital records collection, but be sure you copy all data. I have found several mistakes, even my own father was born twice back in 1877!!!! Jay Henry
I have also just recently started my CT search and I live in MI so I'm even further away. I've been trying to find a Revolutionary War ancestor and the DAR lady who has been helping me suggested the Connecticut State Library at www.cslib.org. They can do specific searches in their library or direct you to a genealogy helper. Don't know how you feel about paying a researcher but usually the cost is reasonable. I've only been to that site once later at night and found the CT Ancestry Society to whom I sent a snail mail letter. Hoping for assistance in finding the will of Jacob Read of Lisbon CT, husband of Lydia Kimball Longbottom. I believe that Jacob Read died 1774. Details of children from will much appreciated, thanks Janice And there are men who scale the mountain steeps And there are men who sink in ocean's deeps, And there are men why on deserts die, And other men to starry heavens fly; And we shall fail, or soar to heavenly things, As our forefathers gave us weights or wings. ~ Alice Carter Cook
The authoritative book, "Connecting to Connecticut", by Betty Jean Morrison, available through the Connecticut Society of Genealogists, says that Lisbon is located in New London County and the probate office is in Norwich. The Norwich Probate Office is located in: City Hall P.O. Box 38 Norwich, CT 06360-0038 USA. Telephone (860) 887-2160, and open Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM. They hold probate records from October 1748 to the present. While calling them seems unlikely for you, perhaps someone on the list who lives in or near Norwich can call them and determine if the records are there, and email you a transcription, or scan a photocopy and attach to an email, or purchase copies and mail them to you - less likely I expect given the distance. It shouldn't be hard to do if the right person steps up. If any of this information is out of date I would appreciate corrections. Thank you. Carol **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. I knew some Smiths in Old Greenwich, Conn, and can tell you quite a bit about them as they were my grandmother's friends and I remember them well. Which your date of 1904 fits that time frame. You must know the date, and town. Then you can cotact the town and request it. There is a fee attached and varies from $5 to 10.00 dollars. The only other way to get a birth certificate under 100 years old is if you belong to a recognized geneology society recognized by the state of ct. As far as online databases ancestry.com has some but its a paid site, you can also check out the Church of latter Day Saints website. its Family search and you can search for free sometimes the info from this site will lead you to exact info on your ancestors.
