The only way that I know of to do this kind of research is to go to each individual town hall to do the work. All birth records are sealed for 100 years. Access to these records is limited to specific indivuals as defined in the state statues. The State library also has an index of church recordss that is available at the library. This index was not microfilmed by the LDS. For more info on what is available, check out on line the History & Genealogy Section on the State libray website. It takes a little looking but there is much useful information there. Everybody doing genealogy research in CT should become very familiar with this website. The further back you go in history, the more there is to learn that will help your find yours CT ancestors. For the 20th century, there are some commercial sites that cam help you obtain copies of vital records. Compare the fees charged by these sites with the fees the towns and the state sharge, The fees are increasing in CT, and becoming similar to or the same as the commercial fees. 1. [CT] Advice on marriage records please
    2. elizabeth edwards
    3. Hello everyone I'm new to this list and trying to identify a Charles CROMACK who appears in the Waterbury censuses of 1860 and 1870, who may or may not be the brother of my gt gt grandfather. I thought I might be able to find his father's name from his marriage records, and sent off for a film of Bristol Vital Records through the LDS family history centres, but unfortunately the microfilm doesn't give any more information than the Barbour Book does, i.e. Charles Cromack of New Hartford married Betsy Radcliffe of Bristol on October 17, 1852, in Bristol by D. Ives. Is it possible to get a copy of the marriage certificate and would this give the father's name? Is there a way of finding out any other information, such as date or place of birth more specific than "England" which would help to prove whether or not he is one of my relatives? Many thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction. 1. Re: [CT] Advice on marriage records please
    2. Hi Liz, I don't live in Connecticut although I was born there, so I have to do my research long distance also. For one thing, there were no marriage certificates at that time, so Barbour was your best bet for that. It's possible that if he left a will it might be located in the local probate office, or on a microfilm at the Connecticut State Archives in Hartford. Sometimes a will will mention a brother or widowed sister or something like that to give you a few more clues. I'm rather leaving out some of the steps, but the main thing I can offer is that there may be someone who lives near where Charles lived who can contact you via the list or email and make a few phone calls for you to the probate office, town clerk to check on deeds, etc. or something else I have not thought of. There are so many little things one can check on to learn more about a person, but they don't all apply to every individual. If he had children where he lived, it may be that some clues might be found in their birth records. His death record might do also if he died near where he married. I hope someone will speak up to give you a hand. I would be happy to if I lived a bit closer. Carol **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps!
