He might have lived in the CT area of Stamford, but I really have no idea about this. Most of my research has to do with his wife's family which was in the area since 1630. Yancey Eugene SHAVER born Dec. 2, 1915, died Oct. 3, 1977, his wife Mildred Louise WEED, born 1917, died 1966. I hope I don't offend any one with this request, I am mostly interested in their ancestors. This is what happened. I was working on my husbands mom's family WEED, when I came across an entry from the Internet for Yancey. Shaver happens to be my maiden name, so this really peaked my interest. I doubt this is the same Shaver family but I would like to see if I can find out for sure. Thanks for any help Sue (Colorado)

Hello.. I just joined the list and I'm trying to find out whatever happened to Maria McEVOY.. Maria's parents James and Jane (Fitzpatick) McEvoy were married in Co. Laois, Ireland..Maria was born 5-4-1872.. I believe she was born or grew up either in the New Haven or Waterbury area..Her siblings were Honor (1870) John (1874) Anne (1877) Thomas (1879) Bridget (1880) Joseph (1882) James (1889) and Jane (1892).. Some names of sponsors to the births of Maria's siblings were: RYAN, DOWLING, PERCUSSION, DUGGAN, WHELAN, LAMB and GRAHAM.. This information comes from a friend in Ireland who has hit a "brick wall" in his search for Maria.. I'm hoping someone may have a connection to any McEvoy information.. Thank You Claudia..

Today I decided to take a drive up thru South Windsor to East Windsor Town Hall to do a little research on my husband's family. (Stengel/Stengle, VanGorder, Tschummi, Pascoe). On the way, I drove past all kinds of shade tobacco fields--dozens of them. The soil is being prepared and several of them had tractors out tilling the soil. The shade netting is all rolled up on the posts, but it looks like much of it took a bad hit from winds this winter. Much of it looked shredded. Just wanted to let you know that shade tobacco growing is alive and well here in CT! Barb

Hi, I'm wishing to find any Burton's, Cheetham's, Hamilton's and Penfield's in the Hartford, CT area kin to. My great great grand dad was John BURTON and he had four children, of which 3 might have stayed in the Hartford, CT area and they would have been Frank, George and a May Penfield being the married name. Also in Hartford, CT, any related to a William L. Cheetham who had 5 children, Elizabeth Mary, Samuel Madden, Nellie J. Burton, Edward and Hannah. I wish to find any relation to a Jacob M. Green in Norwich, CT who had about 4 children with a Rosalie Drisba in the early 1900's in CT. All, I recently purchased a copy of the Commemorative Biographies of Hartford County, Connecticut published by J.H Beers of Chicago in 1901. It contains biographical information which may be of interest to some Connecticut researchers. There are about 1500 pages of material. I have transcribed a few entries so far and posted them on our homepage at < http://hakmiller.rootsweb.com/ > in the Documents section. They may, of course, be screen captured. The posted entries presently include all of the COLLINS biographies in the book, some of the COWLES biographies. and (as yet) none of the WEST biographies. In a week or so, I will have completed all of these transcriptions and posted them. Among the three COLLINS entries is one tracing descent from John Collins in the early 1600s in England to the Collins in Hartford County of the late 1800s. Among the COWLES entries posted so far is one tracing descent from John Cowles (d. 1675) to Walter Goodman Cowles (b. 1857). The biographies I've mentioned are of special interest to us and are all I plan to post. However, I'm willing to do look-ups of other surnames; my email address is in my signature. I went to Westbrook today and discovered that one of their sources for vital records the KELSEY Genealogy! Now, instead of using a primary source, I have to contact a genealogist for the Kelsey Kindred to find out what their sources were. I couldn't find any other confirmation in Westbrook for the particular information I was looking up. What a surprise! Has anyone run into this before? - Barbara

Hi Fellow Rooters I'm noticing more and more on this and other lists that ancestors from Lancashire, England, arrived in the States during a 20 year period: 1870-1890. Mine, the Knowles, went to Providence and stayed there. I know very little about British history. Was there something happening during that time to cause the people from this particular area to come over? Karen from North Grosvenordale
With all the posts on tobaco farms, it seems like a good time to mention my great uncle, EDWARD O'CONNELL. He was born in Bury, Lancashire, England in in 1853. He came to CT at age 18. and lived on Enfield Street in Enfield, where he had a tobacco farm. He owned the general store in Broadbrook for 40 years, and was postmaster there for 25 years. He married MARGARET DUNNIGAN and had 3 children on whom I have almost no information. His daughter, JANE married CHARLES MISKELL and inherited the house after his death. He had a son WILLIAM who moved to Upper Darby, PA and a son EDWARD who became a doctor and lived in Birmigham, AL. I have no idea how to find the 2 sons. The information I have is from the will of my great aunt in England. Their birth certifcates would be in CT, but how do I find them once they left CT? Ellie
