    1. [GenConnecticut-L] Moulthrop/Potter family
    2. Deborah
    3. I am searching for any leads in my Moulthrop and Potter families. My Isaac Moulthrop, b.Oct 1786 in CT. married to Mary Potter, b. Oct 1792 in CT. I believe she is the daughter of Benjamin Potter and Rachael Stone but can't confirm it. I have the probated will of Benjamin Potter but he does not list Mary as a daughter although he does list several daughters and sons. That may be because Mary lived in Michigan at the time of his death... or because I am wrong and she is not his daughter. Mary's death records lists her parents as Minor and Milly Potter. Benjamin Potter had a named Minor so it's possible the children listing parents in the death record were confused. They had lived away from CT for many years. Anyway, I found Isaac and Mary Mouldthrop living in Litchfield CT in the 1820 census. They had several children in litchfield. Benjamin, b.Oct 1812; Rachael, b. May 1814; Dorothy, b.June 1815; Sally, b. Nov 1819; Sherman, b.Nov 1822; and Mary Rosetta, b.April 1825. Other children born in NY or Ohio were Isaac jr., Astometia, Albert, and Harriett. The family then moved on to Michigan. No census can be found for them in 1830 and by 1840 they were in Athens Co., NY I found in the Litchfield probate records a probated will of Levi Moulthrop. On the front of the will was "Jan 27, 1820". His signature is dated October 1819. In the will Levi left $$$ to the first three minor children of Isaac and Mary Moulthrop and minor children of Solomon and Polly Stone. His relationship with the children is not stated and no relationship is stated between the men, Isaac, Levi, and Solomon. No age, birth date, death date nor parents are stated for Levi. It took several years to finish the probating of the will because I have copies of the children accepting the money dated as late as 1836, when they became of age. I have searched land records and have found many records with Isaac Moulthrop, Solomon Moulthrop and Benjamin Potter's named connected.. but no relationship stated. Does anyone have information that could help me locate the parents of Isaac Molthrop? or confirm the parents of Mary Potter? Deborah

    1. [GenConnecticut-L] finding a will from 1770--Windham Court
    2. I have a reference to a will of my ancestor, Nathan Bushnell, who died in 1770. The reference says that the will was probated in the "Windham Court'. Can anyone suggest where I might write to try and obtain a copy of this will? Are wills generally obtainable by mail? Thanks for any suggestions. Jean jahurst@aol.com

    3. -----Original Message----- From: Sue Koller [mailto:sue@KAIConsulting.com] Sent: Monday, May 03, 1999 11:10 AM To: VAROCKIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [VAROCKIN-L] Its a small world/ Weed-Walker-Finley-Shaver Maybe some of you have had this same experience.(or similar) While working on my family line and getting no new information (Shaver/Shafer), I decided to work on my Husband's mothers line (Weed) only because this seemed pretty easy in that there was already some information and I knew they came from Stamford CT, where incidentally we are planing to move shortly. Anyway, I started to look into the Weed family and found a Shaver connection to my Weed family, not unusual Shaver is a pretty common name. But now I find that the Weed family also is in LaSalle County IL, where my Shaver's ended up, and that (specifically) Edmund Weed, came from VA, possibly Rockingham Co., VA, where his wife Keziah Walker came from. (Rockinigham is where I do extensive research on my Shaver line) so, If someone has information on Edmund Weed's marriage to Keziah Walker-daughter of David Walker, please let me know. I found from the book "Ottawa Old and New" a book on the history of Ottawa of LaSalle County Ill, that Dr. David Walker came to LaSalle County from Rockingham in 1826 he was accompanied by his wife Phoebe (Finley) Walker. Any other information on this Weed family, especially with a connection to the Weed's of Stamford, would be greatly appreciated. I hope that this accounting is understandable. In doing research for over 4 years now I have found many coincidences, but this one really threw me, I'm connected to my husbands family long before we we're married and vise-versa, but that's another story. Happy Hunting Sue K.

I would think the State Library would have the church record but doubt that they would have parents listed that far back unless you also found a baptismal of either one. That will usually give at least a father's name. 3. Phil, > Where would I have the best >chance of finding a marriage record for ' John Mason and Hannah Hawes ' , >about 1670s in Hartford Connecticut , I found their married in: Torrey, Clarence Almon, New England Marriages Prior to 1700 (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1985). p. 494: "MASON, John & Hannah HAWES; 5 Jan 1676/7; Dedham" Do note the Dedham, MA. This is not necessarily the location of their marriage, only a residence Torrey found for them. Soooo.... there is a good possibility they were married in MA. Everyone do note I have no MASON line. If you want to search in CT here are some suggestions: 1. The General Index format of the Barbour Collection of CT VRs Prior to 1850 containing the VRs of the surname MASON. The Barbour Collection has been microfilmed by the LDS and is available for loan through that local FHC of yours. The general index is in alpha order of surnames and contains each VR of each person in the state of CT (provided that person's VR was registered and the town was done by the Barbour Collection. You would scroll down the microfilm roll to MASON, John. If his VRs were registered at the local town clerk office you would see a small slip of paper for his birth, marriage and/or death. The marriage one would have his name, spouse, and date and place of marriage: FHL microfilm roll #0002935 Barbour Collection, General Index for surnames Mars-Merril Check out the following webpage of mine for more info on the Barbour Collection: http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/barbour_collection.html 2. Barbour, Lucius Barnes, Families of Early Hartford, Connecticut (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1977; compiled before 1934). This book is available in many many libraries across the country. In fact the Memphis, TN Public Library has 2 copies of it. 3. Boltwood, Lucius M., "Births, Marriages, and Deaths in Hartford, Ct, contained in the volume lettered `Original Distribution of the Town of Hartford (Ct.) among the Settlers, 1639'" in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, XII (Boston: NEHGS, 1858). 3. I'm looking for any information on my ancestors: ZOPHAR BETTS married JANE WARREN - the Mayflower descendant, in Sharon, CT. Their son ERASTUS BETTS married POLLY COOLEY. I'm unable to find any record of Erastus' birth, or determine Polly's parentage, or a record of their marriage. Zophar and Jane moved to Greene/Oxford, Chenango County, NY after Erastus was born. Any ideas? Every Mayflower descendancy chart I've seen stops with the marriage of Zopher to Jane. Thanks for any help, Marie Thingelstad

    3. My favorite tip is to look to Mary's son's in law...ie if one of Mary's daughters married a James Brock, for instance, look for a family book on the Brock's...My experience has been that these books, for some unknown reason, are very generous in providing family info on the mother-in law. One of mine went back 3 generations. Another included a middle initial of a family member and with that tidbit I was able to identify the correct family member in a census.
