This is a two part "yell for help". #1 In the 1800 Conn Census, a Mabel Benton, Letchfield. page 74 and a Jesse Benton, Letchfield, page 74 are listed. Does anyone on the list has access to the 1800 Census and would be willing to look up these two names for any additional information? Jesse Benton has eluded family researchers for over 55 years. With the aid of the internet, I am hoping to find some additional information on Jesse. The listing in the 1800 census might just do that. #2 LETCHFIELD - is that the same as Litchfield? Is that just a "typo My goal is to find the parents of Jesse Benton, born 1789 "somewhere" in Conn....thanks for any assistance. Helen Pratti

Can someone tell me if there is a way to find a listing of those that owned and those that built ships in CT during the 1760's to 1800? I'm looking for family connections. Susan K. Spies
Hello I am trying to find the frend family from Connecticut. My father Richard Frend was born in Bridgeport in 1919. Trying to locate info on his parents James Frend and Dorothy Lent. Also loking for James parent's John Frend and Mary Dempsey.Any help will be greatly appreciated
My aplogies for the lengthy roll call list for the decendents of my ancestors in my direct family line. Some may have been confused about that part. My intentions were to have lookups on two of my oldest ancestors in my list sent to you. The rest of the names were for private mailings to make contact, connect, exchanges, and updates for those responding to my roll call. It is clear that Isaiah McNEESE and Bloomer WHITE are the ones that we need to lookup because our genealogies stop there with those two and go no further for many, many surnames in our families. Thank you all that responded to the email and those of you, who did lookups and even made contact, connections, exchanges, and updates. This all was very helpful in the WHITE - MCNEESE - CAMPBELL Family Web Site, which archives records. It was my pleasure to do lookups, send out exchanges of records and updates, and to meet some of you personally. I want to ask that those of you, who might have been confused in my post to understand that I sent out a correction and tried to clarify my request in a simple statement. Please respond to the lookup if you are in the family and be at liberty to contact me if I can be of help to you in anyway. I try to do some research for the family or those with related interests though my time is limited. I give instructions on how to find what you need if I am unable to do so. It was a great Mother's Day and since I did not say Happy Mother's Day to those of you, who are mothers, then I hope it was a good one for you. Kindly, with regards, Constance
Did New Haven put out City Directories and if so, for what years? I am looking for Charles CHAMBERS b. 1898, who was there in 1942 or so. Thank you. Darcy Virginia tmccabe@cfw.com
Hello Everybody, I am trying to assist my cousin in researching our g.g.grandparents. They were Henry Aldrich and Sarah Peck. The 1880 census shows them as living on Sandy Brook Rd. in Colebrook, Ct. May possibly have come from Canton Ct. Does anybody have any ideas? Marriage Register, Local history etc. etc. We believe that all members of the family were buried in Colebrook, but no graves have been found. Does anyone have a listing of abandoned cemeteries in that area? We have heard that one such cemetery was flooded to make way for a lake or water storage facility. Any help would be appreciated. Margaret

The LOOK UP on the last email was for: ISAAC (ISAIAH) MCNEES families & Blumer (Bloomer) WHITE The ROLL CALL on the last email was for: Those on the LIST of NAMES and their families Constance
LOOK UP AND UPDATE ON RECORDS: Please do a look up of these names if you will. They are from the WHITE and MCNEESE families. McNeese is spelled over 600 variations of spelling so you have to look closely for them. They might be under the M's, Mc's, or N's. These are the names, dates, locations that I am requesting for a lookup. Anything that you have on the WHITE - MCNEESE families would be much appreciated: THE FAMILY SURNAMES ARE: McNEESE (with all the various deviations of spelling) McNeese, McNees, McNice, McNiece, McNeice, McNaois, McNeace, McNease, McNish, Neese, Nees, Ness, Nese, Naes, Neas, Nish, Neis, Nase, Niese, Nies, Nice, Neisse, Mackernss, etc. (deviations on spelling) WHITE - HAWKINS - DOSTER - MORRIS - CROUCH - CAMPBELL - BAXTER - WOOLSEY - BISHOP - MALTSBERGER BEALS/BAILS - KEEN(E) - YEAKLY - MOONEY - HOPKINS - TODHUNTER - GEESLING - HOOPES - MARSH SLAUGHTER - STEAL - ELLIS - MAGILL - ATTAWAY - EUBANKS - BRUNSON - BAKER - REID - MCELROY - BASKETTE MOULTON - GEESLING - STARNES - CRUMLEY - COTTER - DAVIS For an extra LIST OF SURNAMES go to: http://members.spree.com/sip/palisades/history.htm There are over 400 SURNAMES there to guide you with or by in your lookup research. I would like to try to find their origins in the USA and believe the origin to be PA but have very little on them there. DATES ARE: 1736 - 1999 (1736 is the date ship arrived in the Port of Philadelphia, PA where the families of WHITE and MCNEESE came with their children with them. They found a place to settle and live in PA in some County there until they began to migrate elsewhere. 1736 is when the family migrated from IRELAND to the USA. They may have taken a Port out of ENGLAND rather than sailing from IRELAND. Phil, I checked "Connecticut Marriages to 1800" Compiled by Frederic W Bailey from Congregational Church Records. Nothing for John Mason and Hannah. Some John Masons listed, but dates wrong for what is needed. None in Hartford. From "American Marriages Bef 1699" compiled by William M Clemens, the following --- John Mason and Hannah Hawes, 5 Nov 1676, Dedham, Ma John Mason and Sarah Hawthorne, 30 Mar 1684/5, Dedham, Ma John Mason (Major) and Ann Peck, Jul 1639, Norwich, Ct John Mason and Content Wales, 15 Oct 1679, Dorchester, Ma John Mason and Mary Eaton, 5 Mar 1651, Dedham, Ma (below is from James Savage's First Settlers)List of all John Masons JOHN, the patentee of N. Youngest child, Lydia, age one, would have become the wife of John Seymour, 25 Jun 1718 (date from "Barbour Marriages in Hartford"). If it's a "faithful" transcription, it will be a chronological "diary" of goings-on with the church, admissions, baptisms, marriages. Don't overlook the Barbour Collection, in fact, I'd go the Barbour Collection before the church records. The Barbour Collection, film version is state-wide for your name, plus you can pick up all other vitals in the state for your name off of one film. The last name of a woman in marriage record can't be relied on, entirely, to establish her identity. It may have been a widowed name, or just plain wrong. The identity is more likely proved from a will or real estate deed, likely on her side of the family, ie dad or brother, etc. Don't neglect to check published works on the Arnold's and the Hawe's side of the equation.. compare them, dates work done, level of scholarship, etc. And lastly, you might check the indexes of TAG, NEHGR and/or Persi for research aids. Hi Everyone, I am new to the list and fairly new to genealogy research. I have traced my Bemiss line back to Montville Twp, New London, Ct., though the details I have on them at this point are few and far between. Here is what I have so far on my Bemiss line and the first few generations thereafter. Please let me know if anyone has any additional information on the family, or if you think you may connect with this family. I welcome any suggestions, ideas, etc. on research in CT. as I have not done any research regarding CT. records. I live in Oregon, so I don't know if much will be available for me to research from here, so I would welcome information on research volunteers, genealogical societies, libraries, etc. that may be willing to do look ups for reasonable fees.
