I would like to communicate with anyone researching McKEE in CT. My grgrgrandfather was born in CT abt 1812, Married Sally SWAIN b NY 1805. Migrated to OH then MI. Jfraser853@aol.com
I am searching for anyone who is researching the HITCHCOCK/HITCHCOX/HITCHCOLK/HISCOX lines or their variations in Litchfield County. I have a Jabez HITCHCOCK b. ca 1782 Connecticut, d 22 June 1875 Palmyra Township, Portage County OH, m Lavinia/Lovinia/Lucinda UNKNOWN. An article about Jabez HITCHCOCK indicates he was an early settler of the Western Reserve and was from Litchfield County. I'm trying to trace him back. Have lots of information I'm willing to share about his children. Thanks in Advance, Bobbi in Sparta, MI
Suggest you look for "Genealogy of the Hitchcock Family" by Mrs. Edward Hitchcock, Sr, which traces the genealogies of progenitors Luke and Matthias Hitchcock. My 4 grandparents Asher HUNTLEY and Betsey Wilder Tiffany moved from Lyme, Conn. to Bath, Portage OH with a stopover in Hartland NY where their son Asher was born. Asher grew up on Hartland NY, married Phebe HITCHCOCK in Hartland, in 1817. Phebe and Asher had 9 children. She died in Hartland in 1848. Shortly thereafter, Asher moved to Medina County Ohio and later to Bath, Portage, Ohio. A couple of brothers andhis son, Nathan Huntley, followed. My 3 g grandfather, Nathan settled in Medina as did other Huntleys..and their descendants are still there. Shirley in San Diego Amherst Mass., 1884.SUPPORT On Wed, 26 May 1999 21:01:46 -0500 "R. For anyone interested, PELEG is a biblical name. It's meaning is "division". It must have been a word whose meaning was well known (back then) because biblical writers in both Genesis and Chronicles felt a need to explain the reason for using that name. It was given because he was born at the time the earth was divided. (Ever look at how South America and Africa could fit together.) I think he was a great-grandson of Shem, the son of Noah, but I didn't look at that too closely. If you want to look it up, the references are Genesis 10:25 and I Chronicles 1:19. Lucy

July 1813 in Middletown CT) !! On 1 July 1777 William was appointed issuing Commissary to the battalions raised in Connecticut. Not as illustrious a wartime service as his brother Peleg had, but enough to qualify me for the DAR. :-) Ever find out where the name Peleg came from? I would be interested in knowing, just to satisfy my curiosity. I am fond of this family -- I even named my daughter after William's wife, Elizabeth Starr. Any idea how I can find William Redfield's grave? The "Genealogical History of the Redfield Family" by John Howard Redfield says that William is buried in the "old yard by the river" in Middletown, but that no stone marks the spot. Nice to see the Redfield name pop up on this list, in any case! Lynn Searching in CT: Baldwin, DeJersey (Jarcie), How(e), Redfield, Starr
Greetings fellow researchers... I've just completed the first "leg" of a one-name study page - surname GILLIGAN. Not only does it contain Gilligans but other surnames as well. The site includes the 1900 Soundex for Gilligan in Connecticut as well as the 1900 and 1920 Soundex for MA and and the 1900 for VT (Gilligan). This page may be especially useful if you're researching Irish immigrants. By the end of June, I should have the 1900 and 1920 RI soundexes included. When searching for a particular name a/o location, use your "edit", search in page feature of your browser. Please stop by and visit. Sincerely, Deb Gilligan Massachusetts http://www.angelfire.com/ma2/Gilligan

Any thoughts will be appreciated. March on down to your FHC and get the Barbour Collection micro-film for your name, take lots of paper, as you may as well write all the records for your name, or lots of change for copies. Then, you'll probably want to order films on the in-laws you find. The Barbour collection is similar to later soundexes in structure, as all of your name, statewide, will be on the same film.
