Good Morning, Just to add to the confusion about Poquonnock Society; there are two post offices in Windsor and one is Poquonnock. This is out of the "Connecticut Register and Manual, 1995." Dave David P. Wilson Researcher of Eastern CT Families
I don't know about the Poquonnock Society but Poquonnock Bridge is in Groton, CT. Hi everyone, I'm new to this list and I'm looking for any descendants of William MCCULLOCH and Carrie BROWNLEE. Carrie was born circa 1859 in New Orleans. In 1878 she married Swan SULLIVAN there but he died only 6 months after their marriage. She had a son Swan V. SULLIVAN b. cir. 1879. Sometime after this she married a William MCCULLOCH, don't know where. >From old picture postcards sent by her sister to her cousin in New Zealand we find that Carrie was living in Hartford at least from 1904 to 1914. One of the cards (1904) is of 'Corning Fountain, Bushnell Park & North Front of Capitol, Hartford, Conn.' While there is no reference to a street address in the body of the card it says "her home is opposite this building". Another card (May 1914) from the sister mentions "Carrie and William go south in June for a holiday, he has been very ill". Carrie died in New Orleans in 1932, widow of of Wm McCulloch. Is anyone able to do a lookup for me in the 1900 Census? Any suggestions of others sources I could look up would be great also. Thanks Best regards Claire Smith (Brownlee) in cold, wet Melbourne, Australia.
New this list, but I have been searching my HOADLEY family genealogy for about 6 months. I have found that they lived in Branford, CT. My question is that a few month ago I received an e-mail from a gentleman in Ohio. He stated that there was a HOADLEY Library. I tried to e-mail back but his address was insufficient. I believe that he meant it was located in CT. Anyone know anything about this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Mischelle

I get the prize, I had the correct answer Poquonock Society is just an offshoot of the First Congragational Church [1630] of Windsor, CT. Poquonock being a distance from the church site; the powers that be asked and received permission to establish a new church. Poquonock [in this case] was and is a part of Windsor, CT. Anyone wishing to read the stuff needs to see Stiles, History of Ancient Windsor, vol I regards, susan moore windsor, ct

Hello Does anyone know of a web site that lists any soldiers or info on this war? Thanks Tracy
Martha - do you know if he filed for a pension for his war time service? If he did, you could get copies of his pension file from the National Archives. Pension files contain a wealth of information including some information on where the soldier was and what he did during the way (especially if he was injured). Sue

I am working on the surname LATTIN and have received a 1914 diagram of what is described as "Lattin Hill in the parish of Northfield. pver he Litchfield line in what is now Thomaston." Looking for further information re this area and the Lattins, believed to include Thomas LATTIN and Abigail LAKE Lattin. I believe my 4 great Grandmother, Anna Lattin was their daughter. The letter includes the information that a house stood on the hill, 100 years earlier which had a bar and a beacon on the hill. The beacon was used in both the Rev. War and in 1812 War to clal out the militia. "One certain occasion was the raid of Gov. Tryon on New London. One of the furthest regiments was commanded by col. Carter of Warien Conn, but it was one of the first to reach the fort (at least this grandson so stated)" the author is G F. Goodenough of Northfield, CT. Hello Someone has mentioned to me that there is a society for passenger ships that lists histories of the boat. He believed it is based out of Baltimore. I am looking to find historical information on the "Canopic" which made trips from Italy to Boston in the early 1900's. Appreciate any assistance. Tracy
Hi Betty: > Ebenezer BENTON Jr, who died in Milford. > I do not have any dates for him. His wife was Esther CRUTTENDEN, daughter of > Thomas CRUTTENDEN and Abigail HART. According to "Families of Early Guilford, CT" by Alvan Talcott, pg 50 Ebenezer Benton, son of Ebenezer and Abigail (Graves), was born 12 June 1700 and died 11 February 1776. He married 3 November 1725 Esther Cruttenden who was born 1700 and died 24 April 1778. Lived in North Guilford, CT. Had 9 children. I could copy the pages and snail mail it to you if you'd like. I descend from the Cruttenden's several ways including from your Thomas Cruttenden's brother John. Hope this helps Tracy Tomaselli Guilford, CT
Dear Friends, Recently I found out my ggg grandfather was in the CT Militia, Elijah Abell's Company in the War of 1812. I have been all over the internet (using search engines) and I have found and sent for form #80. What I really want to know is where the CT Militia fought. Is there a kind soul, perhaps a history buff, who has experienced where I might find answers like this. Found: Wonderful time line for the war, all kinds of information from the British point of view, Maps, individual battle info, etc. This ggg grandfather lived in Unadilla, NY after the war, married there a woman from his home town in CT. I can't help wondering if the war took him to NY. He apparently was a "builder". It just gets curioser and curioser...the more I learn the more I want to know! Thanks for any leads/information. hi groups , this note has a shotgun attached , but it`s the only way I know to reach the widest possible audience ...... I would like to know if anyone reading this has a POTTER family in the State of N Y , 1830s ...... If so , I would like to ' talk ' to you ..... I have a very long list of Potters that just might be the parents of my GG-Grandmother , And if I can eliminate a few of them by knowing who their children were , it will really help me in my search ......... Now , please please don`t be writing with helpfull suggestions , I have plan of attack underway , that I have been working on for many years , Just for the record , I am looking for Emma Mira Potter`s record of birth ....., some of you probably have seen my previous posts , Thanks , Phil in Lynnwood WA

How I would love it if my Jabez HITCHCOCK would fit into Mrs. Edward Hitchcock's "Genealogy of the Hitchcock Familly." It is a wonderful book - although several on the Hitchcock List are finding errors in it. So far I haven't been able to connect to anyone this book. Shirley, In what county in New York is Hartland?
