Have checked Salt Lake Lib for every listing can think of in order to get records of the Episcopal Society of Northfield So far, no luck. I have a 1914 family letter from a family genealogisr noting that the 1799/1800 marriages of Gad BLAKESLEE and Anna LATTIN of Plymouth and of Luke LATTIN and the widow Anna SCOVLLE Sanford were recorded by the Episcopal Society of Northfield. Northfield was north of the village of and Plymouth (now Thomaston) was east of Litchfield. Any ideas... Hmmm. "The Episcopal Society of Northfield". eh? Following on my earlier comments about the definition of the word "episcopal", it occurred to me that the questioned name might be the name of a Church of England congregation or parish AFTER the colonies gained independence from England but before the Protestant Episcopal Church in the US was established as an autonomous organization. The US version of the Church of England was not formalized until 1789 and until then one supposes that the congregations or parishes replaced the term "Church of England" with various other titles - awaiting the official word. Still, the newly independent Protestant Episcopal Church met with considerable prejudice for some time due to its prior connection with England, so that some groups may have continued a while with obfuscatory names. Not sure what date you have with your "Episcopal Society" reference - but this info may help someone, so am sending it on. Ginny Crawford

Could also be an adjective about a bishop as: "episcopal powers" - i.e. powers derived from the individual's position as a bishop. Any help? Ginny Crawford
Good morning from Montana, I've been trying to locate a birth record and have been unsuccessful. So what else is new for us researchers! According to an obituary I have the person was born in Wallingford. I've written to the town and no record was found. I also tried Meriden. Should I try the county seat? Any suggestions? Looking for Edna Johnson, born September 1, 1888. Also looking for her marriage certificate to John Cone and his death certificate. No clue for dates at this time. They lived in Meriden for most of their lives but I couldn't find their marriage or his death records there. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks, Karen

The place to go would be the State, however - [someone help me here] the vital records dept has been moving for 'ever' and defers to the towns........ Have you looked at Census to see what they reported as their birth places? Sometimes the obits are wrong, as the info is [of course] second hand at best. You could have someone check the city directory[s] [State Library has them] and they often will show where a person arrived from ....... You might also try Cheshire and Prospect. my ideas, susan moore, windsor, ct

"Does anyone know what the "Poquonnock Society," was in Windsor, CT? I just found several entries in a source that these children were born there." Hi Kathy, Poquonnock is a section of Windsor on the west side upon the Farmington River. The Second Congregrational Church was form July 2, 1841, but before that it was probably referred to as the Poquonnock Society. See Stiles "History of Ancient Windsor" I:468 Carolyn
