Hello Listers Would it be possible to send these 'specific' Barbour lookup requests directly to the volunteer and not to the whole list? Am I being a 'complainer"? Could the volunteers say in their initial message that people should contact them personally and not through the main list? Otherwise having a good day, sm

Lorraine White has transcribed a few of the towns covered by The Barbour Collection. Her books are for sale at some genealogy book dealers. However, the complete Barbour Collection has been microfilmed by the LDS and is available at FHCs across the country. Also such genealogy libraries and societies as NEHGS and Sutro and most town clerk's offices or/and public libraries in towns in CT have it of their towns. For more info on the Barbour Collection do visit the webpage I made up on it: http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/barbour_collection.html Following is a "boilerplate" I have on hand. As host of several CT USGenWeb sites, I'm forever telling people about the Barbour Collection and automatically insert the following "boilerplate" in messages: ------------ Boilerplate -------------- If you are unfamiliar with FHC (Family History Center), FHL (Family History Library of the LDS - Latter Day Saints), and Barbour Collection, do check out my webpage: "The Barbour Collection" http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/barbour_collection.html and the intro of my "New England Genealogy Collections Outside of New England" http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/NECollections.html has links to LDS (Latter Day Saints) pages telling what and where FHC (Family History Centers) are located across the country and around the world. --------------- End -------------------- --- Susan SGTAYLOR1@att.net My Genealogy Website - sgt http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/ - --------------------------------------------- USGenWeb Mansfield, CT http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/mansfield.html USGenWeb New London, CT http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/newlondon.html USGenWeb Norwich, CT http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/norwich.html USGenWeb Windham, CT http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/windham.html USGenWeb Plymouth, MA http://www.rootsweb.com/~macplymo/ -------- New England Genealogy Collections Outside of New England http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/NECollections.html WWW Genealogy Resource Links http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/webresources.html *********************************************************

Dorothy POST, b. 29 Jul 1703, m. Ebenezer PLATT 3 Aug 1733 , (Vital Records of Saybrook Colony). I have two different sources that have given me possible parents of Dorothy. One says her parents are Sergeant James Post and Sarah Douglas Post. Another says her parents are Stephen Post and Hannah Hosmer Post. How about it? Any proof which of these is correct? Sharel Sue

My elusive ancestors are DAVISes and Barbour has been consulted before, but I don't think for the Colchester area. I do not know whether they were from Colchester, suspect Windham, Norwich, or New London because of fellow travelers to (what is now PA) with the Susquehanna Company. If you will, please, I am desperate for a locale for Reuben and/or Benjamin DAVIS 1760-1800. Benjamin traveled to the Wyoming Valley in 1763 and apparently stayed; Reuben traveled there in 1769 , laid out the main road transferred one of his lots to a Silas GORE and disappears. Very much appreciate your checking. -jacki >> Jacki, I looked in the Colchester VR's and they do have some DAVIS' families, but no Reuben or Benjamin DAVIS. There is an Easter, Isaac, Jaell, Laura Ann, Myles F., Samuel and Sarah. All except Laura Ann and Samuel appear to be in Isaac DAVIS' family. Laura Ann is listed as marrying James Kellogg (colored person). Remember, all I have is the Colchester VR's. Sorry and good luck. Dave from Long Island

Hello to all, I recently joined the list. I am the Wallingford and Cheshire CT GenWeb coordinator (http://www.genweb.org) I do live in Wallingford and do a few small look-ups here and there, but can't offer any major research as I'm at home with two little kids under 5 and get only so much free time. However, if I can offer any advice or answer any questions, I will try. I do have the following books out on loan from the Wallingford Public Library and am willing to do look-ups. They are UNINDEXED, so you must be patient. "History of Wallingford, CT, 1670-1956" by Clara Booth Newell "Connecticut's Loyalists" by Robert A. East Regarding the second book, here is an e-mail I sent to NewBrunswick-L. Please note: I am not an expert on Loyalists! I have a book called "Connecticut's Loyalists" by Robert A. East (1974; Pequot Press, Chester, CT; ISBN 87106-146-5) that I borrowed from our local library. There are some names of people who went to New Brunswick from Connecticut. General info- About 6000 Loyalist soldiers and heads of families became permanent settlers of New Brunswick, percentage coming from New York 40%, New Jersey 22% Connecticut 13%. An unknown percentage returned to the U.S. from New Brunswick. Here is a passenger list of Connecticut people who took the ship "Union", leaving Huntington, Long Island, April 1783, to New York City, to New Brunswick, May 1783, settling primarily in Kingston, and later some moving up the river to Woodstock, Kings Co.
