    2. I am new to this list and my interest is in the family of Thomas Joseph MARTIN, born 24 April 1859, somewhere in Connecticut. He was the son of Terrance MARTIN of Massachusetts and Kathryn BROWN of Ireland. Terrance and Kathryn also had a son, John. I have nothing on Thomas prior to his move to Columbus, OH (possibly with the railroad) and would appreciate any information at all. Thank you! Maureen

    2. Dale Hall
    3. Hi all, and Happy 4th. I haven't posted to the list in a long time. Hoping someone can help. I am looking for the following families. SMITH: Samuel & Roslie b abt 1835? The immigrated to Holyoke Mass. from Canada, then on to New Haven where they lived the remainder of their life. They took the name SMITH (wasn't that clever)when they migrated to the U.S. My elderly Aunt "Thinks" the name was "FRANOIS". She remembers they spoke fluent French. Their Children; Franklin, Delia, Eugene, Antoinette, and My GGrandfather William. William SMITH b 1862 (?) married Julia Marie ?, they had one child Lena Julia SMITH B 1891. Julia Marie ?, died in childbirth. Lena Julia SMITH m Charles Robert ASKEW. Charles came from a large family that put on "minstral" shows. His siblings were: (Oldest) Lewis, Harry William (Bill) Charles (Chick), there were 4 sisters Mame, Lucy Cathy, and Jenny who did before 1913. Needless to say, My Brick wall is very high.

    2. The above Book: The Irish and Anglo - Irish Landed Gentry When Cromwell Came To Ireland; or A Supplement to Irish Pedigrees, by John O'Hart, Dublin, 1884 is available for lookups. I recently unpacked it from amongst over 18,000 books I am shelving. It seems to have a lot of family histories and lists of people. Let me know if it can be of use to anyone researching Irish roots. 3. Tracy... a step brother/sister are no relation what so ever.. a half brother/sister shares one parent with a sibling from a previous marriage.. Step means that two parents get married for the 2nd time, each had children by their first marriage..those children are of no relation to each other...they are step brother or step sister.. in fact it isn't uncommon to see them marry.. half means that your mother (or father) get divorced or a death caused one to be single..they remarry and have a child, that child would be your half brother or sister. Remember the "Brady Bunch"... Joshua's father was Joshua 3 DAVIS who was born in Chester county, PA, his great grandfather Llewellyn "the sawyer" was one of 5 brothers that came from Wales around 1700..they settled in Chester county..he was refered to "the sawyer" for two reasons..he built and operated a saw mill..and to keep him seperated from the other Llewellnys.. Joshua 4, DAVIS's mother was Hannah ADAMS she was the 6th generation rom Henry 1, ADAMS of Braintree, MA. Her father being John 5, and her mother being Mary DAVIS the d/o David and Lettice (TREVILLION/M) DAVIS ( I know no more of David and Lettice, other than David DAVIS's father was a cordwainer from Philadelphia...any one know him? This was between 1795 and 1817. I don't know how Joshua 4, got to Ohio, I am sure he went there because his sister Mary Adams (DAVIS) HAYNES lived there..she md 3 June 1835 to Francis HAYNES who became a judge in Vernon Twp, Trumbull co, Ohio..Joshua must of met Sophia there, for they were married 1834 at Trumbull county, Ohio. I don't know how or when Sophia WILLIAMS got to Ohio from CT..maybe her family moved there.. Joshua and Sophie had their frist child in Burg Hill, Trubull county, Ohio.. They returned to Joshua's home in Cayuga county by 1839 where their 2nd and 3rd children were born in Union Springs, Cayuga county, NY.. they then went to Michigan in Franklin, (now Tecumsea) Lenawee county by 1842..where their next 5 children were born.. Then sometime after 1851 they moved to Wheatland, Hillsdale, Michigan..where they both died years later. Their children were: 1. Emma DAVIS b 1835 Burg Hill, Trumbull, Ohio 2. Stanley William DAVIS b 1837 Union Springs, Cayuga, NY. I have a letter I rec'd a letter this past spring from a lady in London, Eng., who had bought a copy of a letter Stanley wrote during the civil war to a man who's son had died under his command..nice story, if your interested you can read about it on the Hillsdale web site.. 3. Charles William DAVIS b 1839 Union Springs, Cayuga, NY died in Civil War 27 Nov 1863, shot by accident by some drunken soldiers of his own army. His brother Stanley signed his papers and sent his body home to his family.. 4. Urusla Adelaide DAVIS (great grandmother) b 10 June 1842 Franklin, now Tecumsea, Lenawee county, MI., md her 1c Orlando Wells HAYNES , the s/o her father Joshua's sister Mary Adams DAVIS and her husband Francis HAYNES who was a Judge and lived in Vernon Twp, Trumbull co, Ohio. Orlando served in the Ohio sharpshooters and after he was discharged from them (civil war) he went to Michigan to visit his aunt and uncle and stayed! 5. Maxwell DAVIS b 1844 same 6. Francis DAVIS b 1846 same 7. Manning DAVIS b 1648 same 8. Arthur P. DAVIS b Jan 1851 died 18 Sep 1851 same and buried in same cemetery as his parents. Thank you for reading all of this..
