Dear Rooters: I feel I need to put this query out again. I've heard from several people up there but can't make connections as their info is older than mine. Aren't there ANY decendants from: Minnie E. McBurney, Daisy B. McBurney, May or Mary McBurney, Nellie McBurney & Martha McBurney. These ladies were born between 1880 & 1888 in the Bristol/Plymouth area. Daisy B. was my husband's grandmother who, I believe, was born in Wolcott, CT. Their parents were Sarah Wooden McBurney(12/1847) and Christopher McBurney ( possibly 1846. I have info from Tracy Tomaselli too far back to make a connection. Thank you Tracy. Also, some others whose info is also too far back to make a connection. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Regards, Kathy B.

Was his father originally from Connecticut?; where in England did his mother come from -- who were her parents? >> Carol The Sexton name appears often in the cemeteries around Enfield and East Windsor........sorry, I am not in Windsor now so not in a position to do any checking for you. To add another twist My greatgrandmother was named Lucinda SEXTON Davis [her brother was Frederick Davis] Her mother was Beulah Osborn Woodworth, her grandmother was Jemima ????? 1: we have never been able to come up with a surname for Beulah's mother - Jemima - could the Sexton name tie in? 2: WHY was her [Lucinda] middle name SEXTON???? The area of Enfield was very industrial during the period of your quandry - drawing many people from England, Ireland and Scotland to work in the mills that drew power and used shipping along the CT river. FYI, there was also an active Shaker village in Enfield - you might check their records [no, I don't know where to look for them]. susan moore windsor, ct and tolland, ma
Hi all, Can anyone tell me the name of the oldest funeral home in Hamden? Also, I was told once a long time ago by someone online that ALL the funeral homes have records of all the deaths in the area whether or not they performed the funeral. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks for your help. June
There is a book titled "History of the 14th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteer Infantry" by Charles D. Page that I am trying to acquire a copy. If anyone has a copy that they would like to sell, I would be interested. Also, once I acquire this book, I would be willing to copy photos, etc. Many thanks. Frederick) Sexton was born in Hazardville, Enfield, Connecticut on April 04, 1859. He graduated from Trinity College (near Hartford) and then from Berkley Divinity School, which was then in Middletown, Connecticut. >> A question - my grandfather (born 1859) was said to have attended a "Trinity College" and we assumed that Trinity in Dublin was the reference, since he had been sent to Ireland in approx 1874 for some sort of middle or preparatory school. Later there is a note that in 1876 he attended a "Yale Business College" which we cannot locate other than to be told that it was not a part of Yale University. His family was in the Beacon Falls area until about 1879. But we don't think he did attend Trinity in Ireland, just that writers of puff-pieces about him after his death made some wrong assumptions. But he must have attended something somewhere, as later (1891) he attended Northwestern U. Medical School in Chicago and became a physician. MAYBE the Trinity reference was to the one in Hartford - I had no idea there was such a school - and MAYBE the Yale reference is to the same place (your choice of well-known names!). Can anyone shed light on these various institutions and this puzzle? With many thanks, Ginny Crawford VCrawf@aol.com Carmel Valley CA
This is a reposting of earlier information. I'm hoping that there may be a new lister who might help me. I am looking for information on CHARLES LESTER, b. 1832; d. 1892 and his wife, MARY G. LAMB LESTER, b. 1834; d. 1905. Charles may have been born in Norwich, New London, or Groton. This is what I'm trying to find out. Also, their daughter MARY LOUISE LESTER, b. 1861; d. 1902 (I think). She was my paternal grandmother. Birthplace unknown. I can trace my roots back to ANDREW LESTER and his wife ? who came from MA to CT. If anyone can assist me or would care to exchange information, I would be grateful. Thank you. Carol c.lassen@snet.net

Richard, I'm interested in Douglas STORY, MD, who was a British journalist in coastal China in the early 1900's (North China Daily). I believe that he was Edinborough educated, and his wife's name was Kendrick. He published a couple of books while covering events in the Russo-Japanese War and traveling in various parts of Asia. Would love to know if he shows up in your set of books! Thank you for this generous offer to do look-ups. Sandy Smith shswest@earthlink.net

Hello I have a book at my library on the 1st CT Volunteers that has some small pictures of veterans throughout the book that I'd be glad to photocopy for anyone. I am looking for anyone with a similar book on the 10th, 12th, 14th and 24th. Anyone with these books, or access to them, please contact me. Thanks so much Tracy (Thompson) Tomaselli Guilford, CT
I'm searching for the origins and relatives of my New Jersey ancestors, brothers John and Samuel THROP or THROPP, who arrived in New Jersey prior to 1700. I'm new to Connecticut research and have limited access to books on New England. Here are some of my leads: Both John and Samuel apparently fought in King Philip's War, but the records are very sketchy and I haven't found a reference to the town or county where they came from. They seem to be listed under various spellings. Abigail THROP born 15 May 1676 at New Haven, Connecticut and died May 1708 in Hartford County, Conn. Samuel THORPE, freeman in New Haven, Conn. 1670 The John Throp who located in Cape May, New Jersey for a few years (about 1688) was probably connected with the whaling industry. Thanks for any additional references or recommendations. Doug Norfolk, Virginia
