Norwich History and Genealogical Information The original settlers in Norwich were of English origin. While some had been born in the New World, many had come from England. English settlement in Connecticut had begun in the 1630s along the Connecticut River, coming primarily from Massachusetts Bay Colony. Others came from Plymouth colony or directly from England. In May 1659, settlers from Saybrook, Connecticut petitioned the Connecticut General Court for permission to start a settlement at Mohegan. Petition was granted quickly and in June, Mohegan leaders transferred the land to them. A small party constructed the first house and wintered over. In 1660, settlement began in earnest. These settlers were: (each name below is a clickable) Rev. James Fitch, Major John Mason, Christopher Huntington, Simon Huntington, Thomas Adgate, William Hyde, Robert Allyn, William Backus, William Backus, Jr., John Baldwin, John Birchard, Thomas Bliss, Morgan Bowers, Hugh Calkins, John Calkins, Richard Edgerton, Francis Griswold, Samuel Hyde, Thomas Leffingwell, John Olmstead, John Pease, John Post, Thomas Post, John Reynolds, Jonathan Royce, Nehemiah Smith, Thomas Tracy , Robert Wade; Thomas Bingham, John Bradford, John Gager, Stephen Gifford, Richard Hendy, Thomas Howard, Thomas Waterman, John Tracy, Josiah Reed, Richard Wallis. __________________________________________________________ Submitted by Janice Farnsworth

Hello Everyone I saw this joke and thought it was cute and makes you wonder - hopefully our great grandmothers didn't hide anything that threw us off the track. A man lies on his deathbed, surrounded by his family: a weeping wife and four children. Three of the children are tall, good looking and athletic; but, the fourth and youngest is an ugly runt. "Darling wife," the husband whispers, "assure me that the youngest child really is mine. I want to know the truth before I die, I will forgive you if ..." The wife gently interrupts him. "Yes, my dearest, absolutely, no question, I swear on my mother's grave that you are his father." The man then dies, happy. The wife mutters under her breath: "Thank God he didn't ask about the other three." Tracy (Thompson) Tomaselli
The house has historic associations with the Strong family. Solomon, Elijah and Benajah, Jedediah's uncles, farmers and land surveyors from Lebanon, Connecticut, were in 1764 the first permanent settlers in the Town of Hartford, and were in large part responsible for the organization and establishment of the town. Jedediah Strong II House Jedediah Strong II, a local entrepreneur, a wealthy farmer, and the owner from 1815 to 1825 of a saw mill and grist mill in Centerville. The house survives as a symbol of the prosperity which he enjoyed in those positions.
A virus warning was posted to this list recently. Although there are real viruses, this one is a hoax according to both of the following web sites. www.ibm.com (IBM was referenced in this e-mail) www.symantec.com/avcenter (Symantec Anti Virus center) This is an exact copy of the message as saved for my reference file. I hope this clears up any confusion. When in doubt, check with the IBM or Symantec sites for verification. Good evening fellow searchers, I have recently received a copy of "Families of early Milford, Ct" by Susan Woodruff Abbott. In the Stone family section there is a reference to Nathan Pond's records. Does anyone have an idea who Nathan was, and where his records would be? Thanks for any help. Jacqueline

My son was so very special, not only to me, but to so many family members, friends, neighbors and so many others that he touched their hearts. We never realized how special, until his death. We will all miss him and his enchanting smile. Please keep us in your prayers. An Angel on his way to heaven, One perfumed, starlit night, Remembered ones he'd left behind, And paused in his flight, Looked back to earth, and shed a tear For those all left forlorn. Behold ! Where fell that pearly drop A pure white rose was born. His Journey's Just Begun Don't think of him as gone away -- his journey's just begun, life holds so many facets -- this earth is only one...Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched...for nothing loved is ever lost -- and he was loved so much. "So chosen by God for new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you; compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline...Regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it."Colossians 3:12-14 " Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. "Matthew 5 : 4 An attachment of my son's obituary is sent as an attachment. There is a picture with it, if you can't download it, let me know and I will send text only.
