hi Pam, Just as an FYI, Higginson's give large discounts on all their books if you ask. They run an ad in Everton's Genealogical Helper each issue with this info. I am looking at the March/April 1999 issue which lists the Rathbone book for $63.00. It doesn't mention the index, so I don't know if they include it in their reprint or not. <> Have you considered having the book rebound by a professional to preserve its historic value to whatever degree you have established that, and donating it to a historical society in a city where that family had roots? Then have a copy made for yourself to use for research. In that way you would have a tax deduction, make a historical society happy, and have a sturdy book for reference purposes. After all with rare exceptions the value of a book is the contents. Carol Hubbell Boggs

The books condition is poor, the binder is shot but the interior is intact and in good condition, just very old. In the family line I am searching, the Stone family, there ae notations behind names and dates. Does someone on this list have an understanding what they are? I would appreciate some help on this. This is a sample......William Stone s of Samuel and Naomi (Nettleton) was born 19 May 1788 and baptized 6 July 1788 (MC1). He married Orange, Conn 18 Marrch 1811 (OCh).All through the family history there are references to MC1 and OCh and also a referance to MLR Vol. 22 . Any help would be much appreciated, I have a feeling that when I am told the meaning of the abbreviations I am going to feel totaly foolish. Oh well. Perhaps a senior moment. :-) Jacqueline

To: CTFAIRFI-L@ROOTSWEB.COM, CTFAIRFI@ONELIST.COM I - and, so far as I know, everyone else on these lists - am doing genealogical research. If I need a book, I don't boycott certain libraries simply because I don't agree with their policies. If I need a copy of a Will, I don't refrain from contacting a Probate Court because the staff are indifferent. And since the entire purpose of mail lists is the free exchange of information among people with similar interests, I do not intend to "drop" a list. Nancy, for strongly felt personal reasons which she has explained to me and others who inquired, decided to cease acting as List Owner at Rootsweb. Hers was an honest decision which I respect. She has started a new list. Have I made a choice? Yes, I now subscribe to two lists. Using Outlook Express's Inbox Assistant, all my messages from both lists are placed in my "Connecticut" folder ... and I seldom notice from which list they originate. Good luck to Nancy and her new list. Good luck Rootsweb. Extra special good luck (and continuing thanks) to the transcribers with their 'humongous' and much appreciated project. Let's press on ... In talking about Jedediah STRONG.. I remembered I had some information of another Jedediah STRONG...this one being Jedediah 3) STRONG... This Jedediah was born 7 Aug 1667 at Northampton, Hampshire, MA, he died 12 Oct 1709 killed by Indians at Wood Creek, NY. He was the son of Jedediah 2) and Freedom (WOODWARD) STRONG.. and the grandson of Rev John 1) STRONG.. Jedediah married 8 Nov 1688 at Northampton, Hampshire, MA to Abiah INGERSOLL.. Jedediah was a farmer at Northampton until 24 Aug 1696 when he removed to Lebanon CT., where there were by 4 white families. He was killed by Indians at Wood Creek New York on 12 Oct 1709 at the age of 42 years. His wife Abiah died at the age of 69. No one's name appears oftener on the early records of Lebanon as a committee-man on carious matters of public interest. The following letter was written to his son Stephen (then age 19), a few months previous to his [Jedediah's] death, will interst his descendants: "Son Stephen: Hearty love to you, hoping you are well; as I am, blessed be God for it. I have nothing of news to write to you. I wrote a letter to your mother yesterday and therein all the news I have; but yet I gladly take the opportunity to write a word to you, as a testification of my love to you. I hope you will be mindful of the advice I left you. Be tender of, and obedient to your mother. I hope you take care of affairs at home; they are but little in my thoughts; but I daily mind you, and God forbid that I should cease to pray for you daily. I want such opportunity for it as I had at home. Dear son, pray for yourself and for me also. Give my respects to your mother. What I here say to you, I herein say to the rest of my dear ones. Also my affectionate love to my dear daughter. Naught else. I remain your affectionate father, Jedediah STRONG.
