He was born 19 Jan 1724/5, Watertown, MA, according to the LDS IGI (for whatever clue value that might have). If that is correct, then this is Moses-5 WARREN, son of Joshua-4 and Elizabeth (HARRIS) WARREN [Joshua-3, Daniel-2, John-1] of Watertown, MA. John-1 WARREN is not related to Richard-1 WARREN of the "Mayflower," but Joshua-4 WARREN's mother was Rebecca CHURCH, daughter of Caleb CHURCH, son of Elizabeth-2 (WARREN) CHURCH, daughter of Richard-1 WARREN of the "Mayflower." Thus there is still a WARREN Mayflower line here! Regards, Robert Robert L. Ward rlward1@erols.com <http://www.erols.com/rlward1/> 12236 Shadetree Lane, Laurel, MD 20708-2832 301-776-1659

Hi Nancy, Joanne and fellow listmembers, I have just recently changed ISPs temporarily so I'm not changing my previous email addresses at exbanker1216@webtv.net and mlmaddie@webtv.net until I am permanent. However, I did want to respond to two postings today. We have our ggrandparents, Charles and Henrietta COSIER IVES, buried there, along with Sarah Elvira Ives and James Ives,Charles' mother and father, and Elvira Ives, daughter of Charles and Henrietta. The cemetery listings are at the library in Winsted. There is one phone number for the few cemeteries in Winsted. It is (860) 379-4070. It is right off the main street in town and we have taken pictures of the gravesite. According to the map it appears to be South Main Street but your best bet is contacting the above phone number as there is no onsite sexton. The majority of our Ives were from Fairfield County originally and then moved to New Haven County and the Winsted, Torrington and Litchfield area. As for our Gilbert line, James Gilbert Ives (noted above) was the son of Sally Betsey Gilbert, daughter of James Gilbert and Sarah Loring from southern Fairfield County and Southbury. James Gilbert 6 ( Abraham 5, Thomas 4, John 3, Thomas 2, Thomas 1.) If you think there is any connection with our Gilbert/Ives line, please contact me at any of the above addresses or my sister, Ann Marie at CCD35@Juno.com. Thanks, Marg LaMadeleine

Can someone please tell me the address to Forest View Cemetery in Winsted, CT? I have not been able to locate it and would like to write them for some information on my family. I'm not sure but it seems like it is part of the State of Connecticut and not listed in the cemetery listing, but not sure. Thanks. Nancy
Dear Listers, Does anyone have a copy of Lewis C Patterson's GEneology that has the Alexander Patterson (1705-1746) lived in Haddam,CT Geneology? Could you let me know if it has the maiden name of his wife? Jane
My ggg-grandfather was George William Wheeler, born on or about June 17, 1797 in Connecticut. I have no names for his parents, and no specifics as to areas in Connecticut where they may have lived. The next I can document his life was a son (John Burr Wheeler) born in New York. George is said to have married his wife, Sarah, also in Connecticut. I have perused Gallatin's "Wheeler Family in America" to no avail, and am unfamiliar with other Connecticut resources available. Any direction would be greatly appreciated, and thanks. Hi Cynthia- I can't answer your question specifically regarding age, but my 4th great grandfather was a Canadian, born in 1793 who was living in Illinois. He enlisted at the age of 68. So, I don't think your ancestor was too old 8-) I always assumed money had something to do with it-either some type of bonus for signing up or the promise of some in the future? I haven't done much research on him, but if I find out the reason he enlisted at that late age, I'll let you know. Hello Connecticut researchers, I'm seeking information regarding my gr grandfather Hiram R. HAWXHURST. I believe he was born before 1820. His first wife was Delia/Adeline HURLBURT. They were probably married about 1833/1835. They had at least one child being Sarah Jane born 1836. I suspect Delia died before 1860 because Hiram married 2'nd wife Hannah Maria Leonard & had at least 6 children. My grandfather was Hiram King HAWXHURST born 9/26/1864 & died 10/25/1909. He is buried in the Forest View Cemetery in Winsted, Ct. His mother Hannah LEONARD HAWXHURST WHITE is also buried in the Forest View Cemetery. She died 4/9/1932. Other members of this family in the Forest View Cemetery are: Mary J. HAWXHURST REED, Charles HAWXHURST. I believe Hiram R. HAWXHURST & Delia or Adeline, his first wife may also be buried there. I have tried to contact the Forest View Cemetery & also the Litchfield County Historical Society but no reply from either place. I have been able to trace the family of Hannah M. LEONARD back to England & I'm trying to get the family history for Hiram R. HAWXHURST & his HURLBURT wife. Thanks for your help in my search. Ed Jones New Palestine, In.

Cynthia, Fort Sumpter was bombarded April 12 & 13 of 1861 so your ancestor would not have been too old for the Civil War. Most of the troops who fought in that war were volunteers so only some combination of social pressure and patriotism led most to serve, though there was a standing U.S, army and navy whose troops were given no choice. However, I imagine, too, that you've heard that is was both legal and social acceptable to pay someone else to serve in one's place - an option much favored by the wealthy, of course. As to age limits, I suspect that depended more on the scruples of the enlisters rather than any law or government policy, but sources vary on this. Looking at the record of deaths of captured volunteers in Andersonville Prison, Connecticut deaths amounted to "only" 315 by comparison to New York deaths at 2572, Pennsylvania deaths at 1811, and Ohio deaths at 1030, so one might say that Connecticut got off lightly though being a much smaller state that conclusion might not stand up to detailed analysis. Flora A Morgan; Don't know where she was born or when, but probably between 1820-25; she married Seth M Ingersoll on Sept 9, 1848 in Lorain Co. Ohio. He was born 1820 in Lee, MA. But his mother, Polly Whiting, was born in Hartford, CT. I am pretty sure Flora died in Michigan as that is where a son died at age 2, and where Seth married my G-grandmother, Lucinda Grant.
