In re to many families of children being wiped out by disease, diptheria was another killer during the years previous to the turn of the century and for a while after. In my great greats families many children died from this disease. Just look in the cemeteries and you will find whole families of young children buried there all in a short time of one another. I checked a book out of my public library that lists apprentices in Connecticut for the years 1637-1900 There is an alphabetical index that has names of the apprentices (indentured) as well as those to whom they were indentured. There is some parental info of those who were indentured as well as their age and sometimes a town name. The names of those who had these apprentices are also included with town names. If you feel that you have someone who may fit this criteria, I will take a look for you. Email me privately, so as not to use up list space. This is NOT a complete list of all indentured/apprentices, but it is a good collection (approx 3000 names) Karin akakarin@aol.com
I have received information from the Danbury CT.Cemetery Association, Inc. regarding my great uncle and aunt who are buried in Wooster Cemetery. On the information sent it lists the following funeral directors: W. F. Tomlinson (for a death that occured in 1944) Sayer (for a death that occured in 1915) I would like to know if these funeral homes still exist and if so, what address and/or phone no. is current. Also on the information it lists permit numbers. Are those numbers just burial permits or are they death certificate numbers? Thanks for any possible help. David FOX, born 23 December 1759 Windham?, m.27 October 1785 Hampton to Allathea ROBINSON. David FOX died 7 September 1826 Hampton, CT. Do you have any advice on getting more on him? Allathea died on 12 November 1809. Her 6-year-old son, Luther, died 4 days later. Luther's 7-year-old sister, Clarissa, died 9 days after he did. I wonder what happened. Are there newspapers available for this period? Barbara

Hello List! My great aunt and my aunt were/are both members of the DAR. Does anyone have an idea of what I would have to do to become a member and how much it would cost? Our line goes back to Thomas of Hartford with Lemuel Barnes being the Rev. War ancestor. I am just curious, and don't need many pages of info, just a little idea of what it might involve. Thanks. Hi Everyone, This is a quote from the Connecticut State Library page. You can see yourself at: http://www.cslnet.ctstateu.edu/vitals.htm "The original vital records for most Connecticut towns from inception to the present are in the custody of the town clerk. Public Act No. 96-258, "An Act Concerning Access to Genealogical Records and the Validation of Certain Marriages," provides that birth records less than one hundred years old are only open to certain parties including the individual in question, his/her guardian or legal representative or a member of a genealogical society incorporated or authorized to do business or conduct affairs in Connecticut." There is a link provided to the list of gen societies which are authorized. Good luck, Hope
Does anyone have the basic direct line Hale ancestry of Nathan Hale? Is he descended from Samuel Hale who immigrated in 1615?? thanks. Sue

It seems you need to belong to one in order to get into some town records (I object to this practice and think all the records should be open to the public, but don't feel like fighting city hall right now). >> I agree that the Conn Society of Genealogists is a fine one. Their monthly publication is helpful. I suggest that you might also consider joining one of the more focused groups - I know that membership as/in Descendants of the Founders of Ancient Windsor will get you the much desired 'card'. I also know that there is still some confussion or 'attitude' among the various town clerks in and around the state. I know the 'law', and should actually carry it with me [in the same slot as my 'card'] so that I may refer to it while at the town hall.......... Basically, [as I recall] any records that are more than 100 years old are avail to all. Beyond that, BIRTH records less than 100 years old are private, EXCEPT to the primary person, a minor childs parents, the court and certain attorneys. I have found that death records which bear the SS number of the deceased are also somewhat protected. I also believe that, IF I can produce/convince the clerk that I am an interested descendant that they will cooperate Will someone here cite the law in it's entirety? susan
