Author: rgagnon10 Surnames: Lazerin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.connecticut.unknown/5093.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I am not related to Tulio. I have a very dear friend who is like a 2nd "Mom" to me. She is in her mid 80's I believe. One night she was reminiscing and mentioned Tulio's name. She spoke of how she met him while he was at Bates College (part of the Navy program during the war) and she was in nursing school. They had a few dates before he was shipped out to California for flight school. They corresponded via letters a few times and he asked her to fly out for his graduation but she was unable to do so because of her classes. It seems that Tulio visited her a few times--even once after she married. She remembers him fondly and would like to know that he had a family to be with and how his life was etc.... There are not too many things I can give her so--when she wondered, I told her I would reach out on Ancestry to see if there was anything I could give her for info. It would ease her mind. thank you for listening....please let me know if you have any further questions ok? Rita Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [Connecticut] Book about Enfield, CT history
    2. Elizabeth Torno via
    3. Hello Listers, For a couple of years I have tried to get a book, "Forgotten Past: Hazardville's Powder Hollow: a collection of readings, historical photographs and related materials," through Inter-Library Loan with NO success. I even wrote the author, Charles J. Comparetto, to see if he has an extra copy to sell, but I did not get a response. There were 2 editions, the last one was published in 1998. I would be happy to buy a copy - if you have one for sale or know someone who does, please contact me privately at <btorno@charter.net> My cousin, John Alexander Garesché, was the manager of that powder company when he was killed in an explosion there in 1858. At the time he was killed, it is said that he was engaged to one of Col. Hazard's daughters, but I don't know which one. For our family history, I am trying to find out as much as I can about him, which is why I want to at least borrow the book. All our local libraries say that CT is out of their reach for Inter-Library Loan purposes. We sure hope someone can help, Betty Garesché Torno St. Louis, MO

    1. [Connecticut] Mary Johnson death cert 1923
    2. Terry Bora via
    3. Listers, I'm posting the following message from Barb on the NY IRISH List. She has a death cert for a person who is not the one she was looking for. If this is of any help to anyone, her email is mizscarlettny@aol.com If any of you belong to other CT lists, would you mind posting her message to those lists? Thanks very much. Terry Bora Dear Friends, Yesterday I transcribed Mary JOHNSON's death certificate at NYC Municipal Archives, for a friend who *thought* it might be her Irish-Catholic ancestor. Mary was African-American, hailed from Connecticut, and was not my friend's family. Will someone repost it on a CT mailing list?

Author: rcj137 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.connecticut.unknown/5090.3.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: mchbrg6, What I'm trying to say/suggest is that the Louise (b. 1857/1858) who is the daughter of Henry and Harriet is the mother of Edgar. Edgar might have been out of wedlock. The one marriage record for Edgar gives his mother's maiden name as Louise "Lewis", while the other just has her listed by her first name Louise with no maiden listed. It doesn't matter what marriage you are concerned about and descend from, the information about Edgar that Edgar provided about his parents is what's important. As far as him being born Hampton, Washington Co., New York , it's virtually the same place the family was living in the 1880 census. Poultney, Rutland, Vermont and Hampton, NY border each other. It's about a 1 & 1/2 miles from the center of town from one to the center of town of the other. Hampton could have been were the doctor was? *United States Census, 1880 Name: Louisa Lewis Event Type: Census Event Year: 1880 Event Place: Poultney, Rutland, Vermont, United States Gender: Female Age: 22 Marital Status: Single Race: White Occupation: House Keeper Relationship to Head of Household: Daughter Birth Year (Estimated): 1858 Birthplace: Vermont, United States Father's Birthplace: Vermont, United States Mother's Birthplace: Vermont, United States Household Role Gender Age Birthplace Harris [Henry] Lewis Self M 59 Vermont, United States Harriet Lewis Wife F 49 Vermont, United States Edward Lewis Son M 9 Vermont, United States Elijah Barber Other M 47 Vermont, United States Louisa Lewis Daughter F 22 Vermont, United States ******* For Edgar to have the surname Lewis, his father (if married to his mother) would of had the surname Lewis or would of had the mother's last name if the child was born out of wedlock. From the census records Henry and Harriet only had one son to carry the Lewis surname and that was Edward, and it's not him. This is why I have Suggested Henry and Harriet's daughter Louise as the mother and the birth was out of wedlock. "J" / "Jay" is just a placeholder letter/name on the records for the father? Author: carollpowelll Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.connecticut.unknown/5090.4.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Often the best place to find where someone was from is to start with where they died. Your family story is waiting to be found. I suggest getting death certificates and obituaries. Both should have parents' names and obit may have exact birthplace and surviving siblings which can be a BIG help. If you know where they married then get their marriage record. If you know what cemetery these people are buried in their headstones should give birth and death dates. If you know what church they were members of or where they are buried check with each to see what may be in their records on them. You might try www.familysearch.com; findagrave.com; Family Finder at FTDNA.com Newspapers are archived on microfilm in public libraries and local historical societies. Go to google newspaper archives. The obits come right after the stock exchange and want ads. If you can visit a Family History Ctr, you can order microfilm from LDS in Salt Lake City. http://www.gwest.org/gen_libs.htm NOTE - T! here is a 20 yr. gap in the census records [1880 - 1900] as the 1890 census was destroyed by fire. http://www.genlookups.com/obit_archives.htm Happy hunting for those lost relatives.
