    1. Descendants of Abner YOUNG, b1855 of Killingly, CT
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, Just a quick note for this morning. I would very much like to hear from other descendants of ... Abner and Clara (DEXTER) YOUNG of Killingly, CT I believe they only had one son, Earle YOUNG, b1882, in Killingly, CT. By way of adoption in Boston, MA, Mrs. Clara (DEXTER) YOUNG, b1857, Killingly, CT, was the much-older sister of my grandmother, adoptive-name, Mary Anna Clark DEXTER, b1889, Boston, MA.* I have been told that a descendant of this family wrote a family-history document, and there is only a very brief mention of Clara's parents, John and Mary "Molly" (CLARK) DEXTER, and there is ..NO.. mention of Clara's younger sister (my grandmother). I would like to find out if any descendant of this YOUNG family from Killingly, CT, has a "Family BIBLE" which might tell of my grandmother's birth. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) *My grandmother was a "foundling" in Bostin in Feb. 1889, and was given? the name, Daisy WATROUS, at that time. John and "Molly" DEXTER, living in Melrose, MA, in 1892, adopted Daisy, and changed her name to: Mary Anna Clark DEXTER. (John and "Molly" DEXTER left their life-long home in Killingly, CT, to move to Boston, MA, ..right around the same time the baby girl was born. (Marvin DEXTER's Farm) I have a STRONG suspicion there were "family secrets" in this extended DEXTER family which, if known, would shed some light on the true birth-parents of my grandmother.) ******* Some living descendants I am looking for are: David, Jonathan, and Jeffrey YOUNG, possibly in Ohio Mrs. Carol SANDERSON, possibly in CT or MA

    2. Carole, Does the book have any mention of Holmes in it. I am searching for any mention of my 3rd and 4th great-grandparents. My 3rd great-grandparents were Joseph Holmes and Lucy Morgan. Joseph was born abt. 1837 or so to William Holmes and his wife. Joseph was a Civil War veteran. Joseph and his wife, Lucy, had 6 children. Two of their sons were Frank J. Holmes, born in 1852, and William. Frank was my ggreat-grandfather. I was just wondering if there is any mention of our family name of Holmes. I also have ancestors who were some of the first settlers in this state of CT. Some of these are: Parmalee (Guilford), Chapman (New London), Morgan, Brainerd, Deming, Elton, Gregory, Goodall, Burr, Fowler, Churchill (from Josiah Churchill), Griswold, Kelsey, Church, Harriet Beecher Stowe was my 6th cousin. There are many more, but this is all I can remember for now. Thank-you for your willingness to share what info you have. God bless. Norman and Rolande Gay Wallingford, CT

    2. Hi Susan, Did I state the book was Ancient Wethersfield, if so I do apologize, as I meant Ancient Windsor of which I do have vol 1 and 2., which were written by Stiles. I know Stiles wrote, co- authored, I believe, the Wethersfield books. There are mentions of John Stillman and Mary Wolcott and then Lucy Wolcott marrying Samuel Robbins. also an Anna Stillman who married a Stiles. If you can hold on for a short time, I will try to get to the library in the next town, as they have the two volumes of Wethersfield, will copy what I can find for you. I make plans to do something and someone else always has another plan for me. That is my reward for having a large family<vbg>. If not this week, I should have a free night next week, so will try very hard to get there. If you do not hear from me, please write and "rattle my cage", as this old memory is getting worse by the day. I am printing out your post and will take it with me. Hopefully you will hear from me soon. Carole in CT

After I sent the email I remembered that the DAR put the 1741 date on my application. I wondered about that but never followed through. So, it was my application from 1996 that had the 1755 date. The only other woman ever to use Peleg was 100 years earlier and they didn't even need to put dates down. Sigh, this means goodbye to my beloved "Averys of Groton, CT" if I have the wrong Peleg. BUT my mother has Averys from CT but from what is now Poundridge, NY. So I may gain them back again. Valerie

    2. Carole, I saw your post about Porter and Graves. I am not writing about them but you mentioned in yuor e-mail that you have the Stiles book volume 2 of Anciend Wethersfield, CT. Would it be possible for you to please see if in that book there is mention of Joisiah Stillmans and Comfort Robbins Stillman family? I was given pages from the book a few years ago, on page 674 at the bottom of it and top of 675 family 11 is mentioned, Lt John Stillman and Rachel Robbins. Lt. John is Josiahs father and Josiah is called Joseph in there but has the same date of birth as the Josiah the Rev. War ancestor. Do you think there might be mention of Josephs and Comfort Robbins family? I need to prove that Josiah is Williams father, the Stillman book by Francis Stillman is not accepted by the Daughters of American Revolution as proof of the father-son relationship because that book lacks sources or I did not get a complete copy of it. William was born in 1777 in Wethersfield, CT, married twice Betsy and then Sarah Stebbins and died 3/1/1841 in Kirkland, NY. If you could help me I would apprecaite it please. Comfort Robbins wife of Josiah was born 2/16/1738 in Wethersfield, died 2/21/1804 in Westmoreland, Oneida Co, NY. Thank you for your help. Susan DeHart

    2. Was going through my mail, when I came upon some posts, I had missed. I have Nathaniel Porter as the son of John Porter and Anna White of Messing. This I found in The History of Ancient Windsor by Stiles, Vol 2. Mr. Stiles does mention the genealogy by Henry Porter Andrews, but states he has not seen this work. Mr. Andrews previously published, 1882 ,an earlier genealogy of Desc. of Col. John Porter of Salisbury, CT, from which he has used a few items, bracketed thus [ ]. I am not saying that Stiles is correct, only that I had seen a published genealogy on the White family, in which it tells about Anna White, marrying John Porter, her sister Mary and brother John White of Messing. Her sister Mary, md Joseph Loomis, which is my ancestor, so spurred me on to find more information on the White family, in doing so found the Porter family. Not sure how much of this is important to you. Due to the fact that I did not see the original post to which you were replying, had no way of knowing. If the Porter information is wanted by anyone, I will be glad to share what is in the book. Am quite sure I have copies of the White family descendants as well. Carole CT
