    1. USS Thresher
    2. pat creel
    3. [COPIED FROM GOOGLE.COM] http://thesaltysailor.com/april.htm USS Thresher SSN-593 was built in Kittery Maine at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. (The shipyard is located on the border of New Hampshire and Maine.) She was the first of a new class, designed for optimum performance of her sonar and weapons systems. A new type of high strength steel (HY-80) was used in her construction. Thresher was capable of diving deeper and running more silently than any other submarine of her time. Her keel was laid on May 28, 1958 and she was launched on July 9, 1960. After successfully completing builder’s and acceptance trials, Thresher was commissioned as a US Naval ship on August 3, 1961. Thresher now began a series of trials and tests that are familiar to naval sailors the world over. The first evolution consisted of a shakedown cruise. This cruise is intended to find all of the small faults and irregularities that did not show up during initial testing. It is also used to familiarize the crew with the ship's handling characteristics during cruising and diving operations and to hone them into a finely tuned team. All of the submarine's systems are tested operationally during an extended cruise. Problems are found and corrected and suggestions made for improved performance. 3. Hello list, I am a new member to your list, and thought I would post my interests. I am looking for any information on Edward P BUDGE. I have very little to go at the moment, but here's what I do have. Edward P Budge born c 1850 / 1853 Canada or Port Leyden, Lewis County. Edward married Harriet B RICH - in 1882 at Ionia, Michigan. Edward gave his place of residence as Connecticut. Edward's occupation is down as a Publisher. I have found Harriet and her family on the 1880 census, but no sign of Edward. There is an entry for Edward B Budge in the Fresno 1920 & 1930, but this is his nephew. Any help or advice would be truly appreciated! Best wishes Heather

    3. This query concerns George Wyllys, Gentleman in England from Fenny Compton Warwickshire who sent his steward Williams Gibbons to Hartford in 1636 "with twenty domestics and indented servants" to purchase property for him and prepare a house for him. Two years later, in 1638, George and his party also arrived there . He became prominent in Hartford affairs and the government of the colony, becoming Governor in 1642. The question is, Does anyone know of a source that spells out what ship he and/or his steward arrived on, its name, and passenger list. Need both the 1636 voyage and the 1638 one. Any information concerning these ships and passengers would be very much appreciated. Averill

    1. Re: [GenCT] Greenwich during the Revolutionary War
    2. Sandy, You might be able to buy or ask someone for information about your ancestors if a cd disc exists for the Connecticut men who served in the Revolution. Massachusetts has such a disc and I got help from it from a kind person online. It would make sense that such a cd exists but then sense does not always rule. There is also a group of people who help others, the last words of the group I think are various act of kindness who help people online. Have never used them but heard good things about them. Also, if you write or call to the Connecticut archives or history group they most likely could help too, they would know the Connecticut soldiers. Also, if your relatives have been put in the Daughters of American Revolution you could get copies of the latest papers and on them it would show the service, family line, etc. The fee I think is 10.00 per paper or 3 for 30.00 and it could take 5-6 weeks to get the papers. The DAR is one of the few historical groups that send out papers to non-members just for information and you can ask them if your ancestor is in their records at dar.org and leave an e-mail for them about this which they will answer. Hope this helps and that you have a nice week. Susan

    1. Greenwich during the Revolutionary War
    2. Sandy Johnson Witt
    3. I am attempting to locate documentation about the Revolutionary War service of two of my Greenwich ancestors: Captain Matthew Mead (1734-1812) and Jeremiah Mead, Jr. (1755-1831). The source I have been using indicates that Matthew was in the Connecticut Militia and that Jeremiah was with the Lexington Alarm List of Greenwich. The information is evidently from the following document - Record of Service of Connecticut Men in the War of the Revolution which is not available locally. Any information would be greatly appreciated, including general information about the Revolutionary War period in Greenwich. 1. John and John Lewis Sr. - Jr.
    2. Daniel David Lewis Frommherz
    3. Dear list Folks, Well I have a new bit of info that may or may not add up to finding more information on my maternal grandmother's maternal family line. Some of you may have seen that I posted the birthplace of John Lewis Sr. as Llandeilo Abbercywyn (Church of the Blessed St. Teilo), Carmarthenshire, South Wales, United Kingdom. His birth date is given as 13 February 1771. The National Library of Wales offered that his father William Lewis brought his son to the church for baptism on 15 February 1772. I do not know when he came to Westchester County, New York and I don't even know if he died in the county "YET". I have the book on headstones of Greenwood-Union Cemetery by Francis Spies ordered from Bookfinder.com and it is on its way along with another book for St. Paul's Episcopal churchyard on Columbia Avenue (formerly East Chester Township) now in the city of Mount Vernon. I know now that John Lewis is the senior most "Lewis" person represented in a section of the cemetery Greenwood-Union in Rye, Westchester County and that where he was living prior to his death if not in Rye his body was returned for burial there. He married a woman named Sarah and as yet I know nothing about her however she is listed as his wife and is also buried in Greenwood-Union. Now this part starts to get interesting as my second great grandmother Ann (Marie) Lewis Wood in the 1860 census gives the birthplace of her father John Lewis Jr. as Connecticut. If this is correct then John and Sarah Lewis Sr. must have been in Connecticut for some portion of their lives. Anna Lewis is also born in Connecticut in 1843 and her sister Cynthia Ann Lewis born in Connecticut about 1846. By the time that I caught up with John Lewis Jr. he is already buried at Greenwood-Union and his widow Cynthia Lewis is listed as Head of Household living in New York City. She has listed in her house Anna age 17 my second great grandmother, Cynthia Ann the child is not listed (we know that she died at the age of 7 in NYC probably 1853) and Ella who is using the surname Morell age 9. This tells me if the facts are correct that Cynthia still listed as a widow had a possible child out of wedlock or was with someone named Morell when Ella was born. Ella and Cynthia are then included in the house of James Wood and his wife Anna Maria Lewis Wood first in New York City 1870 where James is working for the railroad as an express man. The Wood family has two children Cynthia Ann Wood (my first great grandmother age 6 and James W. Wood age 1. The Wood family in the 1880 Census for East Chester Township Mount Vernon post office has James Wood working as the Baggage Master again at the Train Station for the railroad. They have several more children as young as 2 years listed. Back to Greenwood-Union. Cynthia Lewis the widow is now buried next to John Lewis Jr. as she died in 1889 and there is a daughter Cynthia Ann Lewis aged 7 years next to them in the Lewis Family plot. So where ever the Lewis Family went to through the 1800's they seem to return to Rye and Greenwood-Union. I am planning to post this same message on the Westchester County New York rootsweb.com list. Thank you for any input that you can offer or any ideas that may some day bear fruit. So when John Sr. died on 5 October 1846 he came back to Rye for burial as did John Jr. and the daughter Cynthia Ann Lewis and eventually the widow of John Jr. My direct line is: Daniel Lewis Frommherz; Winifred Jane Lounsbury; Winifred Marie Smith; Cynthia Ann Wood; Anna Marie "Nunie" Lewis; John Lewis Jr.; John Lewis Sr.; William Lewis (William Lewis probably did not come to the USA his age is not known although his son John was born in 1771) -- Thank you in advance, your input and help is sincerely appreciated! Daniel David Lewis Frommherz
