MY husband also has a long history in CT--back to the 1600s too. Interestingly his line and this has my son and his wife grossed out--to think that they are cousins--though distant ones! LOL Here is his list: Steveens/Stevens to Guilford 1600s Fletcher Burt Wakeley barnes Betts Hurd Bennett Pasco East Windsor/Somers Bidwell Warren --1600s Hartford, East Hartford Icome Milton Tschummi from Switzerland to Broad Brook Stengle--Germany to Broad Brook Burroughs These are the main lines Barb
I have a long history in CT and while some of my lines are well documented--others are giving me gray hairs, They were mostly in Windsor, Granby, East Granby, Simsbury, Bloomfield, Hartford, briefly in Meriden, Loomis-- Windsor, CT going back to 1600s Brown--back to 1600s Booth Skinner Lee Combs Phoenix from England Haynes these are the main lines I have in CT but they tend to overlap here and there. Samuel Francis Reed (ca1801-1833) of Durham, Middlesex Co.,CT m. 02 May 1820 Polly Mattoon (09 May 1804) of Meriden/Wallingford and by the 1830 census of Durham, CT they had three children: a boy 5 - 10, a girl <5, and a girl 10 - 15. What happened to Polly Mattoon Reed and the children? They disappear from the census entirely from there forward and Samuel marries Sarah/Sally Tharp of Meriden in 1833 and dies 12 Oct 1833 before their son, Samuel Burrage Reed (07 Jan 1834) is born. Where did Polly and the children go? Were they no longer living when Samuel remarried? Where did Samuel and Sally get the name Burrage for their son's middle name? This has been puzzling me for over a decade, I hope someone has some information. Thanks for your clues. Carol Boggs **************Play online games for FREE at Games.com! Hi, After many futile years of searching for more information on my ancestor Erastus Brainerd Cunningham's parents or more siblings, I've come to the conclusion he and his sister were dropped on earth from some extraterrestrial galaxy OR I'm in need of someone with better resources and understanding to help me. Could someone give me names of researchers in the Hartford, Newington, Berlin, Colchester, Wethersfield areas ( about 1700-1840) who might be affordable and could help me? Many thanks, Cheryl Cain--Oklahoma
H Again Carol My 1st thought is that Polly and the kids died in an epidemic of some kind. I don't have any specifics on them but that has been the situation in some of my family back then. I have a lot of Watsons from that area and NY. Try writing her name into the internet and see if you come up with a site. There is a birth record for a Nicholas Norbert Peloquin born 25 Feb. 1908 in Sudbury, parents listed as Norbert Peloquin and Mary Ann Murphy. Ontario French Catholic marraige records show Nicholas Norbert Peloquin married a Laura Robordoux in Sudbury, Ontario on 2 Jan. 1934. Aug. 1910 The census shows he was back in Canada by 1870. The Rhode Island Census for 1860/1870 has quite a few Peloquins for the Woonsocket area. But Norbert would have been born between the census dates. I haven't found anything on a Jack or Donald. Maybe you could try the Rhode Island Department of Health-Vital Records Division to see if they have a birth certificate on file for Norbert. Hope this helps somewhat. Do you know if he was living in Sudbury or was he just visiting. Have you looked for him in the 1911 Canadian Census, also, have you checked boarder crossing records yet? Hi Carol I can't find any mention of what was at that address back then but I hope to get to the state library in a few weeks so I will check old directories for the address. I checked local resources and couldn't find much of and help. If you find out before I let you know I am going there--just email me and I won't bother looking. There are several Peloquin family groups in Putnam and Windham County in the 1910-1920 time frame, and many Lavallee's also. A general age might help narrow down possible candidates. Do you have any first names, parents names, etc? Checking the WW 1 draft records from 1917-1918, the only Lavallee in Putnam proper I found who was married was an Albert Lavalle b. 15 Dec. 1886 in Actonville, Canada. The draft record stated he was married with one child. In the 1920 Census for Putnam it lists his wife as Florence b. 1888 and daughter Viola b. 1912. A Florence Peloquin is listed in the 1910 Census as living with her sister Anna Peloquin in Griswold, New London County. Both were born in Connecticut, and thier parents were listed as French Canadian. There is a Norman Peloquin in Putnam listed in the census for 1900, 1910 who is married to a Louise with a son Norman b. in 1908. Norman isn't in the 1920 census and his wife is listed as a widow. He isn't in the WW 1 draft records either, so maybe there is a connection with these people? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
