Most only allow the tree owner to download a gedcom of the tree. One exception is WorldConnect at Rootsweb.com. There the treeowner can specify if a gedcom can be downloaded and how many generations it will cover. -----Original Message----- From: Steve Hayes <hayesstw@telkomsa.net> To: gencmp <gencmp@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, Mar 6, 2013 5:46 am Subject: Online family trees Can anyone who subscribes to one of those online tree services, like Ancestry, MyHeritage, Geni and others tell me how easy it is to download their tree, or any part of it, as a GEDCOM file? I know many of them will let other people look at them on line, and I've looked at a couple (and one keeps telling me that people I have never heard of are celebrating an important event tomorrow), but it seems to require looking at it all online, and I've seen no way of downloading a Gedcom of part of a file. It seems that one has to print huge numbers of family group sheets and type them all in by hand. -- Steve Hayes from Tshwane, South Africa Blog: http://khanya.wordpress.com E-mail - see web page, or parse: shayes at dunelm full stop org full stop uk ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to GENCMP-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
