When I looked at it a few months ago, the security sucked. You had very little control over who was allowed to see your tree. Although it uses a username/password, your in-laws can invite their out-laws, so you have no idea who is looking at your information. GEDCOM upload and download is rudimentary, so you have to enter information by hand. Unless they have improved both significantly, stay away if you are worried about identity theft.
