I wasn't referring to what has gone on since 2001 (although now that you mention it...). But, for example, http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/ngsgentech/projects/Gdm/Lex98081.cfm says "in response to a call by genealogical software developers, GENTECH asked its Technology Committee to address the need for an effective genealogical lexicon they could use in developing software".
