Hi guys thanks so much for the quick response. Wasn't able to pull it off using MS wordprocessor so dwnloaded "Open Office" & followed Steve's instructions, However when I clicked final OK the text file reappeared with ALPHABETICAL INDEX at the top. Saved the document but there is no index. Wondering what is "native word processor format"? Am I saving the document wrong. I'm Jesse from "the colonies" Oklahoma USA that is. I see you Steve from South Africa & I think Helen's from Queensland, right? Again thanks guys jessemc ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Hayes" <hayesmstw@hotmail.com> Newsgroups: soc.genealogy.computing To: <gencmp@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2007 7:07 AM Subject: Re: Legacy > On Wed, 7 Nov 2007 17:55:05 +1000, "Helen Castle" > <helen.castle@optusnet.com.au> wrote: > >>What you created is an .rtf (rich text file) document which needs to be >>taken to a wordprocessor which can generate a table of contents or index. >>In the document is some embedded code which shows the indexer what to >>index. > > I've just tried it with Open Office. > > One needs to call up the rft file > > Go to Instert, Index and Table of Contents. > > Choose Alphabetical Index > > Save the document in native word processor format. > > Call it up and print it. > > > -- > Steve Hayes from Tshwane, South Africa > Web: http://hayesfam.bravehost.com/stevesig.htm > Blog: http://methodius.blogspot.com > E-mail - see web page, or parse: shayes at dunelm full stop org full stop > uk > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > GENCMP-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message
