I completely agree: at least for the foreseeable future, a computer is never going to be able to do genealogical research by itself. But that's not where I'm trying to go with this discussion. What I want is a tool that a human researcher can use to help automate certain mundane tasks, to spot logical inconsistencies in our current views of how it fits together, perhaps to flag things that are unusual in case they are incorrect. It's a bit like saying a computer can't write an essay. Of course it can't. But it can help you spot spelling mistakes, repeated words, and sometimes certain grammatical mistakes. Richard
