PAF was my second program, and I got it when one had to pay for it, $45 I think it was. But I didn't want PAF, I wanted the RDF that came with it. But this is not about lineage-linked programs, of which there are at least a dozen to choose from, and we really don't need any more. I have the census for every Sullivan (various spellings) for VA (those that exist) and NC through 1840. I have AL from 1850 through 1940 for Sullivans in Tuscaloosa Co. I have them all on computer so I never have to look them up online. I used both ancestry and Heritage Quest to compile them. I have the censuses for my mother's and my wife's line on computer also. I'm just an anti-packrat and that certainly gives others problems. Hugh

I have every fact and source that I have found for VA and NC recorded by State year and county on about 30 computer pages, single spaced. Why do I need to pack rat the source they were copied from? I've been doing this for only 18 years, and I have half of a filing drawer of records - plus 6 thin notebooks with printouts. 3. I've spent quite a lot of time today entering information into the Research Data Filer program that I got with PAF some 20 years ago. I thought of ways that it could be improved, and wished for an update, but there is still no other program that does what it does as well as it does. Could Clooz 4 be that program? I hope so! Not too many responses here except this & another off-group. I'd hoped to get some specific ideas to compare with my own idea about data structure which is: Data types Person: Surname : string Forenames : list of string (probably implement in Free Pascal so that would be TStringList) Qualification : string (e.g. Executors of) PersonList : list of Name StatuteMeasure Acres : smallint Roods : smallint Perches : smallint OldMoney Pounds : smallint Shillings : smallint Pence : smallint (assumes that further investigation doesn't reveal ha'pence or farthings!) Classes Ownership LandOwnership_ID : UUID LandOwners : PersonList Occupation Occupation_ID : UUID Occupiers : PersonList TotalQuantity : StatuteMeasure TotalGreatTithes : OldMoney TotalLesserTithes : OldMoney LandsAndPremises LandsAndPremises_ID : UUID ReferenceNumber : smallint NameAndDescription : string StateOfCultivation : string Quantities : StatuteMeasure GreaterTithe : OldMoney LesserTithe : OldMoney Subject to further investigation One or more LandsAndPremises are associated with one Occupation One or more Occupations are associated with one Ownership The associations would be implemented by including the ID of the master class within the detail class. This is sufficient to deal with what I've seen so far. Alternatively I could take the pessimistic view & define association classes: OwnershipOccupation LandOwnership_ID Occupation_ID OccupationPremises Occupation_ID LandsAndPremises_ID -- Ian The Hotmail address is my spam-bin.
