It is a shame that my version of Acroread is 4 versions too old so that the Adobe site is of no help to understand what the error message means. While reading a google PDF file, I get often the error 9, which is also something I don't understand. In both kPDF and the native PDF reader of Konqueror, I can read those files with no error message and I presume any PDF reader not from Adobe would do the same. Fortunately, I found an alternative mean to keep the images I need, i.e. irfanview and the image capture. What I want is a mean to copy data to my database... I have the impression that you're in the UK, in which case you may be able to still get the earlier versions of FTM at places such as PC World. I found copies at less than half price in a discount bin in Debenhams last summer. I'm using ver 2005 quite happily - have been with FTM since ver 4, tried others and gone back to it. Will not be going to 2008 as they've removed too many features I like. Try the free ones as well, such as Legacy. The main thing is that as long as whichever programme you choose can produce gedcom files (and you don't load the system with photos), if you then find another programme you like better, it will be easy to transfer your data. If you have a lot of group photos and wish to assign individual "mugshots" from them, then Family Tree Builder (My Heritage, free) and Family Historian (Calico Pie) each have advanced features to do this. If you just wish to include photos (without "cutout" assignment features), then almost all programs, with the exception of F-ZIP and FTM, will transfer the media references via gedcom transfer. I have multiple versions of both Acrobat Reader and Adobe Acrobat Professional installed on my computer. They all work just fine. Only one application can be set as the default application for PDFs, but you can force a file to open in your choice of app by selecting "Open With" (shift-Right click) or by running the application first, then opening the file through the File > Open menu selection. The main problem you will have is that Adobe stopped supporting Windows 98 somewhere around Acrobat 5 or 6. Regards, -David

For that purpose, I look for books having this kind of lists. Hi: Is it possible to repair a Google ebook downloaded from books.google.com ? I run a computer with Windows 98 with an original and paid Adobe Acrobat release 5 (I think the current release is 9). So I get continuously an error 9 (Acrobat is expensive but they forget to hire a good programmer to write the error messages at long...). Then I sent one file to a Linux computer, read it with kPDF, printed it to a postcript file, converted back the file to PDF format using ps2pdf12 and imported it back to the Win 98 computer. The file is readable but when I try to change it, I get the error 130 (no idea what it is). I tried to remove white pages (won't save) or to add some bookmark (won't save). Any hint ? Since I completely rebuilt the file with the PDF -> ps -> PDF process, I thought I could do what I want with the book (in my case, adding bookmarks and read it from Window 98 and Acrobat 5)...
