He learnt to fly at the Military School at Larkhill on Salisbury Plain in 1911 and was awarded his Royal Aero club licence on 07/04/11 number 54. He went on to serve with 3 and 5 Squadrons pre war and during the war he held a number of senior postions in the RFC as a Technical Officer.
