Of course that does not rule out the possibility of a stillbirth or an infant who died before the next census. There are no obvious candidates in FreeBMD, but the name is too common to be certain as the wife's maiden name is not included in the index at this period. As I mentioned, his marriage is correctly recorded in his service record which would suggest that he had official approval. David
