    1. Help re: New Zealand BMD

    3. I have recently taken out a short subscription to the New Zealand ancestry site but am finding it most difficult to navigate. I was hoping to find the birth, and parents, of Lance M. Fraser. Apparently he was born in New Zealand in probably about 1966 give or take a few years. I guess that it would help if I found out in which part of New Zealand he was born. If anyone can guide me a little it would be greatly appreciated. Noreen

    3. Dear Noreen, There is no way to circumvent NZ privacy laws regarding Births, Deaths or Marriages. The same is true for Australia. The NZ bdm office database at https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/ makes it quite clear: oBirths that occurred at least 100 years ago oStillbirths that occurred at least 50 years ago oMarriages and eventually civil unions that occurred at least 80 years ago oDeaths that occurred at least 50 years ago, or the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago Don't be fooled by the US rules, they definitely don't apply to NZ. Neither Ancestry.com nor any other group can circumvent these NZ embargoes no matter how hard they try. You cannot steal someone's identity unlike the do in USA. If you want access to more recent records you will have to prove a legitimate reason AND be a direct descendant. Phone the NZ high Commission in Australia http://www.nzembassy.com/australia/about-the-high-commission/contact-us in either Sydney or Canberra Sorry to be the bringer of bad news !
