Dear List, I have been researching my gggrandfather John McLean for some years and still can't find him coming into Australia. He was born in Glasgow in abt 1843 ,married in Yarram in Victoria in 1871 to Mary Ann Hall and they had 12 children.5 of these went to New Zealand when they were older which I have often wondered why.Could John McLean have sailed from Glasgow or perhaps England somewhere to NZ before coming to Australia. Was his account of NZ enough to wet his families appetite.I have found 5 possible connections and I wonder if anybody on the list has any of these shipping records that they could look up for me please. 1...John McLean born abt 1844,aged 22 in 1866,arrived Melbourne Vic on OTAGO from Otago in New Zealand.Haven't got an exact date. 2..John McLean, born abt 1844 ,arrived Hobson Bay 22 June 1869 on the GRESHAM from Liverpool. 3..
