Consular deaths have nothing to do with working for the embassy. They are simply a way by which the death of British citizens abroad can be registered: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/births-deaths-marriages-civil/registering-a-death So being listed in the Paris consular deaths tells you that he died in France but not a lot more. However, it does mean you can apply to the UK for a death certificate for him. I imagine there would also be a French death certificate available too. Kerry
