Alexander PATTERSON married Bridget Corbett at St Phillips Church Sydney. This is for a non computer friend who is just beginning. I think the marriage was 1885. they had 13 children. The friend wants to know where Alexander and Bridget came from as she believes them both to be Irish. I wonder if Alexander might be Scottish. Grateful for any directions to suitable sites. regards Marg O'LEARY Port Stephens NSW
Marg, NSW BDM indexes have been online for some time and you can check the exact year of marriage for your friend's ancestors there. This will give you a reference number so you can order the marriage certificate which should contain the names of both parents of bride and groom, as well as places of birth of bride and groom - and other information as well, e.g., occupation of both and of their parents, ages, etc. www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ certificates can be expensive and there is information on the site re using a transcription agent to obtain a transcript of the certificate from an agent. These transcripts contain the same information as the certificate but are much cheaper to buy.
