I've a marriage record in W.A 1898 between 2 people (Smith-Hall), 2ch born, the last 1900. Both parties though (parents and occupations and age match)- married a 2nd time, the man in 1909 )NSW) the woman 1935 (W.A). Surely *both* wouldn't think of bigamy;-) In the main's case ( middle name Anderson) no record was found by researcher in Supreme Crt. records up until 1914.Found a few john A Smiths in Police Gazettes, but not enough info. Am wondering if the WA Supreme Crt. listings (on film, also at FamilySearch centers to 1925,) might be indexed alphabetically as searching 30 films is a bit daunting. Have spent hours trawling Trove's "West Australian" newspaper "Divorce Smith v Smith 1915,1916, etc - assuming the woman secured a divorce- any search ideas welcome. I imagine many men who ventured to W.A looking for gold were a bit careless in their family commitments.. Di

Will get all info together and ask Supreme Ct., W.A to check beyond what has been done as one would think Annie would have applied for divorce by then.. Smith's 2nd wife died young, and he married a 3rd time 1935. The only solution to the puzzle is unlikely event of 'stolen identity' on the first marriage..i.e details such parents names and occ. of father - there was a signature on that marriage cert. though! Cheers :-)
