A year and a half ago I was looking for some background info on anybody who was in the Dandenong Ranges district back in the 1960s who may have names of the committee members and others that were involved with the construction of the Olinda Swimming Pool. In April last year when I last wrote for help I had no idea that the pool's future was in so much doubt. The pool is now closed and the need to gather historical information is still important. Please help, thankyou. Here's the post of last year: Hi all, I'm slowly trying to put together a little history on the Olinda pool, to better understand the social environment that existed in the Dandenongs in the 1960s. I know that the pool came about following fund raising and community discussions mainly organised by the Dandenongs Fire Prevention Committee, a group set up after the devastating bushfires of January 1962. At one time, hills resident Roy Boulter was chairman of the committee. Further info on Roy Boulter would be most welcome. Would anybody know the names of any other office bearers? Do any readers recall the public meetings? Would any readers care to share photographs of the Olinda Pool not necessarily from the mid 60s but from any era? The Olinda Pool was officially opened in late December 1964, so it has a 50th anniversary coming up. The Yarra Yanges council keep trying to close it down, so far residents have managed to prevent this - but for how much longer I wonder? Will the Olinda Pool still be operating in 2 and a half years? If you have any pictures or stories please share them. There are some news clippings available at this facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/SaveTheOlindaPool where I guess you could post your pictures. thanking you robert
