In a copy of a book issued by Vauxhall in 1946 there is a picture of him (undated, but around 1912) at the wheel of his 16/20 hp Vauxhall in which he broke the Melbourne-Sydney record by 2 hr 7 min, completing the 570 miles at an average speed of 34 mph.
