Dear Marg, I'll add to what the others have already said. The only time you are likely to get EXTRA information is if the bride was under the age of 21. I have a C of E marriage certificate from 1873. The minister was Francis Bertie Boyce. He added a paragraph giving the mother's name as the one who gave her consent, since the bride's father had died in 1864. Apparently "F. Bertie Boyce" was known to be 'ahead of his times' in many ways and very conscientious.
