For months I have believed that Thomas and Mary were a couple arriving in TAS 1834 on Thomas Lawrie with their four children. However, today I found the ships list of passengers only to discover that Thomas Geard was listed with 'a daughter' and Mary Geard with '4 children'. This suggests to me that Thomas and Mary were not a couple. But they could be family connections ... I also note that Charles and Samuel Geard came out to Hobart in the Thomas Lawrie in 1832. Were they fore-running the family to set up homes? To answer the original question - some of the Geards could have moved on to VIC and further to NZ from VDL as this time 1835 was the beginnings of Melbourne. Any more suggestions? Cheers, Josephine
