Hi Doug, I suspect the reason gmail addresses are being used is as I do namely: So my proper home email address doesnt get compromised and lots of spam received as has happened before. By having a gmail address specifically for newsgroups, if it gets a massive amount of spam & scam mail then one can just terminate that address and create another gmail address to use. re the answering posts of many years ago, when newbies start up they get to see them even though they are years old and I guess they reply in the hope that the original poster is still around using that email address. Sometimes they win, but I suspect that mostly they don't.
