    3. We have come to the conclusion that the relative that we are seeking was probably involved in the mass migration of children exported to Commonwealth countries in the 1950s. This was to supply children to work as slaves on farms and in domestic situations. Siblings were by policy were split up. Many were told that their respective parents didn't want them any more. Many children were abused physically and sexually - especially those who ended up in institutions run by various religious orders such as the Catholic Christian Brothers in Australia. Apparently a grant was given by the Govt. for every child taken in, making it financially rewarding to accept as many children as possible. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/opinion/2009/1118/1224259043528.html As has been widely reported in the media the Australian Government has recently made a public apology about all of this mistreatment. The British Government has yet to do so (par for the course). Our relative - a female - effectively disappeared from the London area in 1952 at the approx. age of 17. We only have her birth certificate for 1935. Over many years we have been unable to trace a marriage or death cert. And there are no adoption records. She was trained at the Inst. of Houseworkers in Harrow. So she would have been ideal to have become a domestic servant with the (false) promise of a new life overseas. There is a special website set up to help those afftected by all of this at: http://www.childmigrantstrust.com/ http://www.aph.gov.au/Library/pubs/BN/sp/ChildMigrants.htm http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/clac_ctte/completed_inquiries/1999-02/child_migrat/submissions/sub132.pdf We would now like to contact anyone who has worked with the CMT to track down a missing relative. We need to understand the options and resources available for us to use to track down our missing relative. Many thanks - Chris B.
