    3. The Ryerson Index people are primarily indexers, although some are willing to do lookups. Lookups are available for quite a few newspapers, not just the SMH. It seems that some people are just not looking carefully enough at the Ryerson site. To see which papers are available, I suggest you work carefully through the following steps: * go to the home page at www.ryersonindex.org and click on "Requesting a lookup" in the left-hand column; * this takes you to a page explaining that some SMH entries are available online, so you can do those yourself without having to ask for a lookup; * if you want an earlier SMH or a different paper, click on "Request a Ryerson Lookup" on the RHS bottom of the page; * this takes you to a page headed "Requesting Lookups" -- first click on the link at the end of the second line "For a list of available lookups, see this list."; * then you have a page headed "List of available lookups", providing a detailed list of which papers, and for which periods, lookups are available; * if the paper/period you want is there, hit the Back button on your browser to take you back to the "Requesting Lookups" page; and * read all of that page very carefully and, if there are no other avenues available to you, fill in and submit the lookup request. Be aware, however, that (as I said above) Ryerson is primarily an indexing service, not a lookup service. There are some who believe that the Ryerson indexers should not be expected to do lookups, and if the lookup service becomes overloaded, it may well disappear. Having said all that, perhaps I can help Hayley with her original request. I try to go to the National Library once a week (although it did not happen this week), and I may be able to look up the Daily Telegraph notice that you want. Perhaps you could contact me off-list, Hayley, and I'll see what I can do. Lindsay Graham, Canberra Hayley wrote: > Unfortunately our state (WA) library is one that does not have this > newspaper.
