Hi, I am so proud of my grandfather, William Gustav KLEIN, and he should be named, the original inventor of the telegraph pole lifter who worked for the P.M.G., Department during 1930-1941 at the NSW Strathfield pole yards. Otherwise the job would of taken 80 men to lift. The P.M.G. took the credit for his invention because he worked in their hours. Just a bit of trivia for you !!!!
To start your day with some mirth!!! This book is for sale on eBay, - seller lives in Florida. Here is the description!!! "AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF AUSTRALIAN BUSHRANGERS BY GEORGE BOXALL... [CANADA HAD THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE - AMERICA HAD THE TEXAS RANGERS - AUSTRALIA HAD THE BUSHRANGERS]. THE CONVICT SYSTEM IN AUSTRALIA -- CONDITIONS OF THE PRISONERS -- THE DESPERATION OF DESPAIR -- SOME TERRIBLE REVELATIONS - BEGINNINGS OF BUSHRANGING IN AUSTRALIA -- ORIGIN AND MEANING OF THE TERM -- THE BUSHRANGING ACT AND ITS ABUSES................." Edna MacPherson Sabato
Wonder if the seller has read the book??? Lindsay Graham Canberra, Australia This gives a whole new meaning to Canberra, the Bush Capital!! Reminds me of an American who responded to my description of Canberra in that way with commiserations because he thought I was using it in a pejorative sense! We are heading into the very silly season, and already on some lists the usual pre-Christmas rubbish is staring to appear. Can we do without it this year please? We do NOT need any more postings of the "Workhouse Christmas" doggerel - if you haven't seen it and want to (can't imagine why!), google it. If you wish to send seasonal greetings to people who have assisted you, or you have come to know through the list, by all means do so - OFF-LIST. And we don't really want to know what the weather's like up there, and what's to be served for Christmas lunch. It is annoying to spend time deleting all this rubbish, especially when some posters do not indicate clearly in the subject line what their post is about. If you MUST post the "Workhouse CHristmas" for example, at least indicate that in the subject line so we can delete it unread. Some people don't celebrate Christmas and we should be mindful of their feelings - I do, but not as the endless commercialised weeks of garbage we currently suffer. My thanks in advance Janeen
Bah humbug Janeen. If someone doesn't celebrate Xmas then they shouldn't be living in Australia. You sound like a very sad and lonely individual. That is it for me.....time to unsubscribe from this message board. Hopefully there are others out there whom don't mind a bit of happiness and laughter in their posts. Thanks to most of you for all your help. There have been many. Oh and Janeen please don't contact me 'OFF LIST' as you are way too depressing for me.
