Hi all, While researching my great grandfather Christopher DEACON I came across an article regarding the death in Victoria in 1882 of Elizabeth DEACON, husband Christopher DEACON. As my Christopher was only 13 when Elizabeth died, it clearly wasn't him. I couldn't locate the stated marriage in Manchester, or any other reference to the couple, but when I searched for a marriage of a Christopher to Elizabeth (CAREY/CARY) I found their marriage in Manchester in 1857, Christopher ARCHDEACON to Elizabeth CARY. I then located their arrival in Victoria in 1866 and various other family events. Christopher's death was registered as John, his father's name, he was possibly known as John by the staff at the benevolent hospital. Christopher's brother Samuel and sister in law Ellen also came to Victoria about 1866. If anyone is researching the family I am happy to share the family details that I have located to confirm the correct surname, including a newspaper court report in which Elizabeth confirmed their name was ARCHDEACON but they used the shortened surname of DEACON. (Their only son Christopher junior married and had descendants in NSW). Thanks Ray
